How do you permanently remove "your browser is managed by your organization"?

About once a week my browser has a notice at the bottom of the settings tab that says "your browser is managed by your organization". I've looked for ways to remove that but it keeps coming back. I've deleted regedit chrome policies, changed antivirus programs, etc. Is there any permanent solution?

Of course I understand it's important to encourage the rape culture, the control culture, by making people powerless to use things like browsers without overt signs of submission to this or that group. I am not criticizing nor opposing the broader rape culture, it's great and I support it. I'm just wondering if there is a solution to this one tiny rape module i.e. the "your browser is managed by your organization" stamp on the browser.

I take it you are using a device not owned by you and are on a network that is not owned by you? They belong to a company or organization you work for?

If that is the case then they can put whatever restrictions in place that they want to.
Only 'solution' is to use your own device that is loaded with your chosen software and only access an open network.

No, of course not. I would not be complaining if it were a work computer. Many people have this question, you can search it on Google.

Something keeps putting a registry key in Chrome policies called "extension install forcelist".

There does not seem to be any way to stop it for people who are not interested, aside from deleting that registry key every few days or weeks when it appears. I'm wondering if anybody knows another solution.

No, it is not from malware. There are hundreds of articles online mentioning that it is something various security programs cause, and it was something specifically intended by Google.

"Due to changes in Chrome 73, programs on your computer system which set enterprise policies can control how your browser works. In most cases, the message is caused by legitimate programs and there’s nothing to worry about.".

It's harmless, but it should annoy people.

and click the button in the comments that says "show 293 more" i.e. show 293 more of the comments, you can see that there are lots of suggested fixes, but actually none of them work for long.

Most people just resign to it.

Well all I can say is that I've used Chrome for many many years on several different systems and have never once had the problem. Then again I also have pretty tightly locked down systems where nothing is allowed to change settings (or update) without me (most likely) knowing about it.

One of the interesting aspects of this issue is that people try to portray it as an experience issue or a malware issue, when it is neither.

I do not have that notification on my PC or laptop but if you want to remove that, maybe you can uninstall your OS and install a new one, then you can install TOR in the fresh OS.

Or you can use Linux with TOR inside the OS so you do not have to worry about anything.

Very true - when you have the browser on different devices setup to sync with each other. When they sync then any device with the 'owned by' tag set will transfer the setting to the other devices.

I don't synch devices.

The issue is actually common, you can search on Google.

There are many explanations and solutions offered, none of them work for long.

There may be people who have this issue as part of a malware problem, but in most cases it is a registry key modification done by any of several anti virus companies along with Microsoft and other companies.

In other words the actual modification which leads to the 'stamp' is done by an 'appropriate' security 'authority' and can only be reliably undone by weakening the access of that security 'authority' to registry keys.

Just to be clear, the reference to 'owned by' was the fact that many or most people do not want a stamp on their browser that says 'owned/controlled by an unknown organization'. Your car can have a stamp on it that says 'GM' or 'Chrysler', but it would be annoying if it had a stamp that says 'This car is being managed by Chrysler', and if you removed the stamp it would return every time.

Some people are not bothered by that, some are.

There are a group of security services, browser extensions etc, commonly used by the same people, which cause the flag.

Most recently, a few days ago, I finally figured out what caused it this time, and it involved a security program.

Now, I wait for the flag to reappear, which it will.

When it does, I know that the only way to remove it is either cosmetic, by deleting the extension install forcelist registry key, or to adjust or change the antivirus etc.

Anybody who uses the same programs i.e., any program from the same group of programs, will have their browser's policy be restricted and that flag will appear.

There is a lot of malware, and I might be infected, but this specific issue is not a malware issue, it's an issue of Microsoft making a decision to put a brand on computers of a certain cohort of people.

The only permanent solution I know is to not use Microsoft, but any other solution would be interesting.

Microsoft teams for online lectures sounds like something which might require an enforced modification of browser policies, but in many cases the message is intended for average users who do not join any 'teams', and don't like a 'team' manipulating their browser.

By default, this feature was provided in order for network administrators to set browser usage policies for users within organization.
