I'd be really grateful if someone could help me. I did a search for Cryptocurrency Forums and came across this site as I don't really know who to ask as I don't really understand this cryptocurrency stuff. I appreciate this appears to be a bitcoin forum and my question is regarding ethereum coins, so not sure if you can help, but I thought it was worth a try.
A very close friend of mine who very sadly passed away last year gave me some advice to buy some of this Ethereum stuff a couple of years back. I had been left some money by an uncle and was looking to invest a portion of it. I was originally planning to but it all into a high interest account but my friend convinced me to invest in this cryptocurrency. At first I was reluctant to invest but my friend was utterly convinced that these coins would increase in value substantially one day and I could potentially make a lot of money. I eventually decided to invest £6000 and my friend walked me through the process.
Anyhow I forgot all about it, and early last year before my friend passed away (who knew a lot more about this stuff than I do) so I didn't really ask him about it. All he said was that it's going in the right direction, and in another year or two would be worth something.
Like I say I kind of forgot about it.....he kind of talked me through it all. I think I did a withdrawal into some kind of wallet from an internet coin exchange (I'm pretty sure it was called Bit Rex?) and then had a really long password which I wrote down. I think it was about 75 coins if I recall correctly.
My friend told me for extra security I should store this password away safely, so he showed me how to safely store my wallet password in a text file encryptor thing which I still have on my computer. I wrote the password down to this password protected file and stored it in a tin I keep on top of my kitchen cupboard with all other important letters and paperwork.
So skip forward to last week and I am talking to another friend of mine and he mentioned Bitcoins (all over the news) and I said how Stuart had helped me purchase a new thing callled Ethereum which he was convinced would be as big as bitcoin one day. He told me that the new coin had been going through the roof lately in terms of value so I should check and see how many coins I had and check the value of them.
.....Unfortunately I've lost the bit of paper that had the password to the encrypted text file
I think I might have chucked it away accidentally when I was throwing away some old bank statements.
so I've been searching around my computer for anything I can find, but I'm totally stuck....I can't find the password in any document I've saved at all
I do have a file with this in it but I think this is related to my wallet? 0x7dDd57165c87A2707f025DCFC2508c09834759Bc
I have the program on my computer that encrypted the text file that had my password on it which is called cryptxt - I've sent an email to the company on the cryptxt.org website but they have replied and said that they are unable to help me.
So I have this file on my computer that is password protected, but have no way of opening it
If I could figure out what the password is, then I'd have the password to the wallet and I could check how many coins I have, and possibly try and exchange them for Bitcoins?
At this point I'd just be happy to have my £6000 back
Would it be worth contacting the website who manage the wallets? Is there anyone else I could contact? Ethereum maybe?
Any help would be greatly appreciated!!
