I see not a normal spike in ETC network difficulty going from 278 T to 310 T from in just two or three days.I think this increase is due to the fact that many 4 GB cards from China are already bought and put to mining the ETC which I think we should see another increase in network difficulty in the coming days, also ETH difficulty gradually increasing too so even the 8GB cards and ASIC miners seem to be relocating.I think the majority of these are relocating in Texas and now that difficulty is increasing again mining will not be that profitable in the near and not near future.

on a positive note, this should make the network get a bit stronger. considering there are several times etc got a 51% attack, it might be a good thing for the future.

The only GPUs that are less expensive this days are those with 4GB memory and coins like Ergo, Ravencoin, ETC are still profitable to mine with 4GB cards but that doesn't mean those hashrates are from China, remember no single miner can power their rig in that country anymore, they are been arrested and forced to sell their rigs

How does this square with the fact that the power grid and pricing can be erratic in TX?

https://bitinfocharts.com/comparison/ethereum%20classic-hashrate.html?
I also see that the hash rate is gradually increasing, but this coin does not have a high price, so the profit will fall.
If miners have purchased 4 GB of video cards or even 3 GB, they probably want to quickly recoup the equipment.
40 Terahesh is a lot for this coin Smiley

I don't know about that,I know that the laws are friendly for mining in Texas and that is why a lot of people that had devices in China will relocate in Texas. As how will that mix with their power grid there I don't know but I know US is a powerful country and will sort it out sooner rather than later. In US,Texas no one will shut down your devices with a communist decision like the ruling party in China.

I don't think its only the GPUs. From what I read the older Antminer E3's can still mine ETC with a simple flash. They forked to a new algo to lower the DAG and also to get rid of any ETH ASICs however the fork wasn't very foolproof since there is a firmware available which lets you mine ETC.

So most likely those old E3's also got relocated somewhere and are getting powered up. The 4GBs GPUs are also being relocated unless they managed to sell them to some gamers at a mark up. However like I said a few weeks back. The hashrate doesn't matter because unless these ASICs/GPUs got destroyed, they will be put back online within a couple of weeks. So the difficulty was low for a while but now will keep rising and rising. At least it looks like crypto might of ended the bear market.
