This will be the 5th times I will change my hiveOS back into HDD from usb stick, I have 6 different rigs and ive already change 4 of the usb sticks back to HDD because they died unexpectedly, what the heck is wrong with running hiveOS on USB sticks? Anyone having same issue?

Maybe you storing the cache on those usb sticks? This will kill the usb sticks in no time, I'm still using mine after my first mistake and I've learned my lesson, stick with this rules and your usb sticks won't die on you again

If you are using USB stick for HiveOS you must deactivate the logs with logs-off.

I have similar problems, I bought ordinary HDD disks for 80-120 gigabytes. Their price is now like a USB flash drive. Or buy 40-60 GB SSD drives, it will be a little more expensive, but you will get more speed at boot time. I now use USB flash drives only for testing, because this is not the most reliable option.

I would strongly agree with this,a branded SSD of 60 GB will serve you well with your purpose. Now really good brand USB-s like Corsair and HyperX which are premium ones cost more than a small size SSD.All your problems will vanish right away once you switch to SSD. You can even go cheaper if you want,I have a Kingfast 60 GB SSD which is running since 2019 without problems and that is a Chinese brand SSD which you can buy for 12-15 USD in Aliexpress.

Ive run sandisk 16gb - 64gb usb drives on all my rigs. Since 2017 without issue on about 1/2 the units. I dont run Hive but do run ethos/mmpos. Not a single issue. Cost for 64gb $9.99 each in 10 packs off amazon from sandisk store.
48 rigs currently…none have failed. With the oldest units being 16gb and still going stong.
Yawn….

Which country are you from? Stay away from usb sticks from China they die easily, order good products and also make sure you deactivate logs when installing hiveOS on the memory stick.

UBS sticks are more fragile to run 24/7 Hive os website: Source: https://hiveos.farm/install/Just an idea I didn't see here yet, Hive OS is very stable, here in my house I only restart once or twice a month to update or some crash So you can use old HDD, I don't know you, but here I have some spare HDDs of old laptops, consoles or PCs, it's not bad to use one because you don't need to restart a lot of times But if you need to buy something, better to go with 60 or 64Gb SSDs, it's cheap

I've stopped using usb sticks since many years ago now they all died on me or they get extremely laggy over time, once I changed back to HDD I see big improvement, hiveOS takes more time to boot through usb stick but HDD did the job more faster

Man its crazy how cheap SSD's have gotten. Even at $20 that is sure a steal. Back on topic, I had this issue also with flash disks. Usually you can format and re-install everything and it'll work for a month and then the problem will happen again. Then you can try reformatting and do it over and over again or it'll just be completely dead. I also went to the old HDD route. Had tons of these in the basement and never had any issues with them burning out. Only issue might be they use a few watts of power however the stability was worth it for me.

For Hive OS this is a very good solution, for Windows it works very slowly with old hard drives. But a hard drive consumes more power than a USB flash drive, but a hard drive is more reliable.

I actually wanted to stock up on a bunch of old HDD at certain stores which sell vintage computer parts or some garage sale. And let me tell you. The hard drives are definately not going for $2 each. I remember they wanted something like $25 for some old 80GB HDD. Same with Craiglist, they got people selling 60-120GB drives, they are all HDD, definately never going to use them again and they want at least $20 per drive. Even though the HDD is worth $1, nobody is selling them that cheap.

An 80GB HDD costs 10$ in my country and they are more rugged than usb flash drives as per my own experience with them, I'm better off using HDD or small SSD for mining than using USB drives they aren't design for heavy duty usages
