Why would someone create topic that deserves merit but won't be merited?

It's simple, people give out merits when a post is beneficial to them and not for mere fun, so it could be that the main post is deserving of a merit to the same person who saw a comment worthy of merit, and then some one who see's the main post deserving may also at the not have merits to dish out.

Franctoshi, your thinking is too general and without concrete examples, so it is difficult to answer concretely.
Can you give specific examples of topics that deserve merits?
If so, list them in your post, I will personally review them and if they deserve merits, they will get it from me.
Personally, of course, I don't have time to browse the entire forum and read all the posts, but if I come across a post that contributes to the quality of the discussion, gives some new information or adds some new value, I will always reward such a post with merit.

This is not a criticism, just an experience.

This is the truest statement in the beginners and help board today. I am a victim and also a witness of this. When I was a newbie, I'll create topics and go offline, when I return, I'll be anticipating a particular number of merit and if it didn't come, my day is ruined automatically.
But I was somewhat lucky my expectations were most times met. But immediately I took my mind off merits, I saw myself making original and uninfluenced posts, then more merits came. I didn't actually take my mind off merits because of advices I received, I did because I had enough as of then. So, it is unlikely for any lower member(s) to make a sincere post without being merit expectant. It is just somehow natural and attached to human insatiable nature.

You writing a long post those not make a quality post because I don't know if the length of a post is what makes you think that the post is quality, there are lot's of long post which after reading you will endup not gaining anything, why some short post always carry lot's of informations and always educative. Giving merit is a choice if you think a post really worth it them you give and if the post is not useful to you, you might decide to leave the post without meriting it. So all what I have to say is not long post those not make post a quality post and also their is a thread which you can post any of your topic which you think it worth awarding merit to.
