If this happened in a different country, this woman could try that casino in court and probably could get some money for the inconvenience she suffered.
Not 43$ million but at least a life-changing quantity for her, like 5 million of dollars or so.

It is very unfortunate this things happen, if she was gambling while suffering from depression (we never should underestimate the mental state of others) she could have ended up killing herself out desperation.

It'd make more sense to deactivate a malfunctioning machine rather than keeping it active. Also I doubt they've been forced to repay anything gambled on it for however long it malfunctioned.

If they didn't know it was malfunctioning the actual amount she won was very low compared to what the casino could likely afford so I think they should've been forced to pay a higher amount (at least around $30-300k or the maximum that could be won on that machine depending on the size of the venue).

I don't understand how a machine can make a mistake.  And if the machine is broken why is it kept in the gambling center?  I think this is one of their tricks by which they attract gamblers to their platform and get scammed with them and the gamblers' money is stolen. How can they consider her a $1 Something winner where that woman won millions of dollers lol

Probably it was not discussed during that time, it was 2016 and this forum hasn't had any of the big influx of member beginning 2017.

So just about time though to talk about it and as we can hear from the people around, it doesn't sit well with most of the gamblers here because this is very fraudulent from the casino itself. But the verdict is out, the rule of law favors the casino again. And yeah they could be protected because of the amount of money and taxes and jobs it bring to any nation. But still though, if you were in the shoes of the winner, you will feel that bad not winning that huge amount of money.

I am not saying that she did something stupid. The lawsuit attracted a lot of media attention. Although they would easily win the suit in the end, the casino may be worried about their reputation. In this sector, the reputation matters a lot. And that is why I believe that Miss Bookman did the right thing by suing the casino. There was a very good chance that the casino would enter in to some sort of an out of court settlement and award some compensation to Miss Bookman. But unfortunately for her, that didn't happened and she didn't gained anything.

This sort of incident happen every now and then. Sometimes it become mainstream and other times it is considered to be a usual thing and get overlooked.

Also it is an interesting fact that if you lose a big amount, the machine or the algorithums never become faulty. Only when you win big amount, suddenly you started to hear such news. This is all done so that the casino do not have to pay huge amount to the winner, which is indeed sad.

We know that it is difficult to win in gambling, and when you win, then you are not allowed to get that amount. How sad is that ?

Some Casinos are just plain fraudulent. So this woman visited a casino, play slot and won $43million. She took a selfie with the amount displayed on the machine. The casino saw it and told her to return the next day so they could talk about the winnings. Next day she returned. Story changed. She was told the machine had malfunctioned and therefore it was what was responsible for the winnings. They went ahead to offer her a complimentary steak dinner. I got so livid reading this story.

   -  Based on the article I read I don't believe that the slot machine is malfunctioning, from what I see they are saying that the slot machine is malfunctioning because they have no intention of paying such a big win to the person, so they keep saying that the slot machine is malfunctioning even though it's not really.

Then if the slot machine is broken, they should have written that the slot machine is broken, but there are no such reminders placed on the machine. That means it's not broken. That casino should be sued or shut down by the government there, it's too abusive and fraudulent.

This is what I have learnt and I think everyone who did not not learn this should learn also. The next time I visit a casino to gamble on any of their machines, I will be sure to ask the attendants there to show me a machine that they are certain is not malfunctioning. I know that you cannot know when you are about to win, but developing the habit of always asking about a machine that the attendants in the casino are certain is not malfunctioning will stop them from making that excuse if I happen to win any day on their machines.

The next time I visit a casino to gamble on any of their machines, I will be sure to ask the attendants there to show me a machine that they are certain is not malfunctioning. I know that you cannot know when you are about to win, but developing the habit of always asking about a machine that the attendants in the casino are certain is not malfunctioning will stop them from making that excuse if I happen to win any day on their machines.

You have a point and that is definitely a good practice from now on, I actually thought about this after reading the story though, but didn't bother myself since my chances of ever entering a land based casino in my lifetime is very slim, but for those that do gamble on land based casino, this is a good practice to adopt.
I believe that no body was given birth to and he or she became wise from birth, we all are learning though not at the same speed, those who learn faster are those who open themselves up to learning from other peoples mistakes and experiences, the experience of this woman is one that I believe have thought many gamblers something new, like you shared.
