Hello all, I am trying to track a bitcoin purchase I made in 2009, I no longer have the pc I used, I wrote the details on some paper and stored it but we've moved house a few times and it might have gone missing,  I have looked on every hard drive, flash drive, cd, dvd etc but to no avail so far.
I bought it off a forum post but I can't remember which forum. Did anyone sell bitcoin in 2009 and if so which forums did you use, I am trying to retrace my steps in the hope it jogs my memory,  I've only been looking for the last 2 years 🤣 so I don't mind looking for another 2 years.
Cheers
Losing the PC, moving from your old apartment to a new one, not remembering any sign or place you might have kept the important details is sadden because Bitcoin was way cheap during the that period, and 99% of individuals who had it never sold it, instead kept it until 2012 and 2013 when there were some good early prices. It's heartbreaking to see someone with Bitcoin but not knowing where he or she purchased or kept it. That signifies a total loss, and it is likely that no one will ever uncover it as the year progresses.

What a story, huh. You found a great time to try to get it back. I'm not sure it will work out, but I wish you luck! I can get that back in 2009 BTC was new and you couldn't know that it will skyrocket, so you didn't keep your data with all security measures.

When you bought Bitcoin in 2009 you should have collected important papers and kept them. But in 2009 the value of Bitcoin was not so much that you did not take care of it and lost the important papers where you left them. but since you said you have moved your house from one place to another several times, I think you might not be able to find your important papers. If you don't look for your lost papers but search which forum you bought them from you might find them. Your complete steps will definitely require you to work harder so you can rest assured that you can always find success.

Didn't want to disappoint the OP but from what he recounted, I don't think he'll stand a chance of getting that bitcoin back. Although it is tough to buy bitcoin now compared to 10 years ago because the price has increased by thousands of percent, but I think instead of wasting time searching in vain, he should use his time to work and accumulate bitcoins from scratch. He was not the only one who threw his bitcoins in the past, a lot of people also didn't appreciate bitcoin at the time, and they spent a lot of time and money looking for it when it was of high value. But so far, I have not heard of anyone succeeding in finding their bitcoins.

That's a very long time ago, I don't believe that you can get them back because once any vital information about your private key is lost it's over, if you can't remember there is nothing we can do to make you remember, one if the law of keeping Bitcoin safe is to write down your keys or keep the safe, how come you don't remember that you had Bitcoin in 2017? Because that's the year that Bitcoin start making bigger noises around the world, why now when we are in another bear market?

Bitcoin was very cheap at the time, and it could make anyone to be less serious with the private key and recovery seed, also since Bitcoin is new and there is no assurance of surviving it's easier not to take Bitcoin seriously, I don't blame you, but if you are ever going to get your Bitcoin back, it's all on you.

If that's the only clue you have obviously there is an almost impossible chance to retrieve it but as long as you really have that bitcoins stored somewhere, you still have the chance to get it back someday. By the way, you haven't told us about the amount of bitcoins you had back then, why not share it here as well so that others might have some idea of how they will going to help you?

But honestly, the only one who can help you this time is no other than yourself because you really need those memories to put the puzzle and finally get to where you leave your bitcoins.

Wow, that would be like a never-ending job because it's been so long ago and you don't even remember which forum you bought it from. You also don't know who the person is and whether he is still alive or gone or is not playing crypto anymore.

I doubt you will find it even if you want to look for it for a few more years. Maybe you should just forget about it and consider it a valuable lesson not to be repeated. Sometimes something we take for granted can pay off big in the future, so it's best to store it well.

Even if you search for thousands of years like this, you will never find your bitcoins.  To find your bitcoins you must find your private keys.  If you can't find the keys, you no longer own the wallet. You won't get your bitcoins back if you find the website though.  This is the most impossible thing to do at the moment because now it is 2023, the number of Bitcoin investors has increased a lot.It would not be possible to really trace out a record of where the coins were stored in such a long period of time.  You better come back from these activities.

It's a serious thing but if you can't remember or access what will give you access to the wallet, then there's nothing you can do to own it back.

Not your keys; not your coins - unknown

We all know what's the meaning behind this phrase and given the timeframe since you last opened it, it seems that it will be impossible for you to find it even if you will hire some few people to help you find it (which is not really advisable as they may see it without you knowing). Especially after the fact that you just wrote those keys in a piece of paper without having any duplicates in softcopy. Best of luck to you OP, hope you find it, really.

I'm not asking if someone on here sold me the coins,  I'm just trying to retrace my steps, there wasn't any exchanges in 2009 they was sold peer to peer, so I'm not being childish just trying to jog my memory
OP, this story is not clear.

OP is only giving us some humor, just laugh it off 😂
