I believe anyone genuinely seeking knowledge will be voracious in reading and researching and when I don't find it in these newbies, I summarily conclude they just want to be here for the grab; so to say. Recently, we've seen a preponderance of "I'm a newbie" threads pop up here and there. They can lurk around, study and read comments in the forum and form answers to some of the questions they might have asked in a haste, without screaming they're here.
I don't think you are harsh either and sometimes I take it to be a notice me attitude, I might be wrong but that's how I feel. I believe anyone that created an account here and truly wants to learn shouldn't start his first post on the forum with "I am new here" or "I just signed up and I need help knowing how the forum works". I expect such a person to spend a good amount of time lurking around, reading up, knowing some vital information about the forum and when there are questions worth asking, then they can be presented to forum members for help.
