Alternative accounts not prohibited but why there is no existing one?

I am just trying to accumulate knowledge and while learning through readings in the forum, I also feel comfortable to enquire and researches to clear my doubts.

This has got me to ask, While I have read a passage stating that the "forum does not prohibit alternative account" but the accounts should not compromise the policies not the forum such as spamming and plagiarisms etc , why then has any of the forum members not indicated of having an alternative account in the forum?
Is that a fear as a course of being penalized or what even when there is a lawful backup on that?

There are so many users here who have alt here, that's well known notably, Theymos the admin of the forum , hilariousandco a global moderator and LoyceV who you can't just know nothing here base on his contribution in the forum.

Some people use alt accounts for privacy reason, now what's the point for someone to create an alt account to stay something sensitive which he don't like people want to know his main account, but he confessing if he was actually X (main account)?

You're wrong if there's no one confess if they have alt accounts, check:

I don't think there is fear of being penalized and as you can see Apocollapse shared several alt accounts owned by forum members and if you spend long enough in the forum you'll notice more members using their alt account. some choose to publicise that they have an alt account, and some just keep their alt account hidden. Each person has their reason as to why they choose to either publicize their alt or keep it hidden.

Have you been able to spot out an alt that might likely belong to the same user and is violating the rules like you said? If yes, then you shouldn't hesitate to create a thread on the reputation board, with solid proves to the allegation. I don't even know how well you read the rules but, I believe you know exactly what you're asking.
If that's not the case, then Yes... We've got a couple of users that have known alts. Apocollapse listed a few to begin with; it kind of like create some curiosities in my mind that I can't help but ask,.. why did you have to ask about these?

Yes, I also locked some people who have such art accounts. There are certain people that we know who use it for their purposes to give us pictures. But it's better not to use alt account as there is enough space to deposit anything with one account. Since everything is done with one, what happens with so many accounts? One account should be acceptable moving forward.

Assuming you have many people that know your account on this forum and they know you physically, there are some members that can be good and have alternative account because of that. Because you may not want to have some posts with the account that the people know. So I can say that privacy can be the reason.

The reason for some people having alt is to join signature campaign and they will not disclose the reason.

But it is worth knowing as other people have posted that some people have alts and they declared it. Although, this is not the discussion of this thread. There are some members that have alt but not let people know.

You can’t be penalized for having alt accounts as it is not against the forum rules. However you can get a negative if you’re caught cheating signature campaigns and contests by participating with both accounts. Also if one of your account is banned, the ban is extended to all accounts connected to that person, should you continue to operate on the forum with other accounts then that would be considered as ban evasion.

Some users create alt account to say something against another member in the reputation board, they do this to avoid backlash on their main account. Theymos is not against this either:

I don't have a problem with alt accounts as long as they're not used for evading bans. If you're hesitant to say something controversial because you don't want it to be associated with your name, please create an alt account and say it.

There is nothing wrong to have alt account as long as you're not doing anything harmful like scamming, abusing signature campaigns, contests and etc. Many members declared their alt accounts as shown in posts above.
Offcourse, there is much more people who have alts, but they don't really want to declare it as they have reasons to pretend that they have just 1 account.

There are some forum members who have their alternative accounts that they use and they even leave a neutral tag to convey to other members about the presence of their alt accounts.

I can't recall the names of most members but I'm sure about two members having alt-accounts and I even see one member using his alt account regularly.

Loyce is the one having an alt-account and he uses it regularly without hiding the fact that the alt account belongs to him. HugeBlack, at sometime created his alt account but I don't know if he regularly uses it now or not.

Question about altaccounts probably asked by one more recently registered alt account that registered...
There are many members who got tagged as altaccounts, and I know some members publicly confirmed other accounts they us, but nobody really cares about that.
As long as members are not using altaccounts for cheating, abuse and trolling, they can have as many accounts as they want, no explanation or permission is needed.

Having alt account is not against the forum rule as you have reasoned, but many of those alts that are available could not come out boldly in declaring for their alts for one or more reasons, some knew they could be ban evading if they do so, some would also want to maintain only one on the public for private reasons while some could not even afford to have more than one accounts, so many circumstances may surround this, but just as you have already been shown with some examples of those declaring their alts, its never against the rules, there are many more members having their alts known to the public and things are going well with them, just don't go against the rules if you have alt.

Because there is no obligation to indicate how many accounts and what the names of the accounts are, and there are no penalties for having alternate accounts.
Some use it to participate in signature accounts some use it for backup accounts in case the other account is hacked.
As long as there is no abuse involved like trading merits and trust rating and you do not cheat in a campaign it's okay to have alternate accounts.
But the most important thing is you can manage these accounts properly.

Just as many other members have pointed out that alt account is not a crime here on bitcointalk, but the use of those accounts is what forum and it members are against, take for example having multiple accounts by a scammers can help him to scam more People a d that is the main reasons why forum members are tagging alts for various negative reasons that are against the community rule's.


Also, admin can ban an alt accounts of a previously ban member, which is call ban invasion, aside from those negative pointers, we have many known members who have declared they alt accounts at on point or the other.
