I believe Satoshi is a common term for all Bitcoin enthusiasts which refers to the smallest fraction of Bitcoin. In 1 Bitcoin we have a total of 100,000,000 satoshis, which means we can divide 1 Bitcoin into 100 million fractions, currently this might not worth much but in the future a satoshi might be worth covering up some expenses. Bitcoin is not only represented in satoshi, we also have the μBTC (Micro Bitcoin)  and mBTC (Milli Bitcoin).

I see a few signature campaign which pays per post according to satoshis and most users still find it difficult to do the conversion but nevertheless this thread will be of good help, instead of solely depending on web converter we can deploy little mathematical skill.

Conversion of Bitcoin to Satoshi (Sat)
1 Bitcoin = 100,000,000 Sat
100,000,000 = 1×10^-8 BTC
1 Sat = 0.00000001BTC

Converting μBTC to BTC
μ (Micro in normal terms of our mathematics = ×10^-6)
So if we are to convert 1 μBTC to BTC
1 μBTC = 1×10^-6 = 0.000001 BTC
Having converted μBTC to Btc now we convert to Sat
As we know; X signifies the unknown number of Sat we are looking for
1 Sat = 0.00000001
X amount of Sat  = 0.000001
Doing the calculation, we get
X = 0.000001 ÷ 0.00000001
= 100 Sat
So, we can conclude that 1μBTC = 0.000001BTC and also = 100 Sats

Converting mBTC to BTC
m (Milli in normal terms of our mathematics = ×10^-3)
Let's convert 1 mBTC to BTC first
1 mBTC = 1×10^-3 = 0.001BTC
Having converted mBTC to Btc now we convert to Sat
As we know; X signifies the unknown number of Sat we are looking for
1 Sat = 0.00000001 BTC
X amount of Sat  = 0.001
Doing the calculation, we get
X = 0.000001 ÷ 0.00000001
= 100,000 Sat
So, we can conclude that 1 mBTC = 0.001BTC and also = 100,000 Sats

If you are someone who cant handle some little maths then this thread will definitely guide you through, but for I learnt all about the conversation with just a type on Google and even some YouTube video because maths isn't really my strong side 😁. What I was really even concerned about here was how many and the terms all those other fraction of zeros in Bitcoin are called and I found a very good representation by @GreatArkansas

This is a well-detailed way to convert coins to BTC. Without help from Google, I can't properly convert them since I do not know the conversion rate. Thanks for this information. But truly it is faster to calculate it this way using the calculator to using google or youtube to know the conversions. Good post.

Just when you think you're done with elementary maths then boom you are faced with it in real life situations.

This thread just brought back my elementary mathematical conversation on board and I must say, you can't do away with this little maths as long as you live. With the use of AI and goggle search engine, most of these things are not being paid attention to and most persons would just shift these responsibilities to AI to help them do all the conversation but if you know these basics, don't ever let it go as it's the fundamental knowledge everyone should at least have a knowledge of without necessarily going to AI all the time for things like this.

Actually I'm surprised that centi-bitcoin was formerly frequent and micro-bitcoin is frequently used, for me milli-bitcoin and millisatoshi are both thing that frequently I heard till now. Probably centi-bitcoin used by OG since Bitcoin was still cheap, so 0.01 BTC at that time was like nothing money.

Thanks mate for the breakdown of how to convert Satoshi to Bitcoin because I am representing a signature campaign that pays in Satoshi per post and at first when I joined the campaign I use to find it difficult to convert the number of posts in Satoshi to Bitcoin and just like you said I use to wait till when the spreadsheet have been prepared and then I use Google to do the whole conversion at once but coming through this thread will help me in calculating my number of posts in Satoshi to Bitcoin before the spreadsheet will be prepared.

There is a general consensus that if someone says 0.001 BTC, it's understandable that it is what it is. And if someone says 1 mBTC, there's a need to convert that into BTC for the whole thing.

IMHO, it's easier to understand if the measurement is simply to be said as BTC. But whichever you are comfortable to say the amount, you can tell that to whom you are talking to.

At the end of the day, there's always the internet that someone will use for searching the actual conversion per bits, sats, etc.

This table is really helpful and has actually made things lot more easier to understand but i don’t think i would’ve understood the table without OP’s explanation about how to calculate and derive the value for a SAT/μBTC/mBTC.

For some time now i have really wanted to learn the derivatives of all these and whenever i see them being used i find it difficult to understand but thanks to Op and the table you provided i now have a better understanding than before. I would have dropped some merit but sorry OP i am currently out of smerit.

Most of these units are general units, as μ, m, K, and others are used in most measurement methods and to abbreviate zeros, and therefore the only important conversion is Bitcoin to Satoshi and vice versa.
Overall a good effort.

Will people talk in sats? I think the problem is the contrary but at the same time the same because it would suppose too high numbers which is almost as uncomfortable as adding zeros as in the previous case.

Micro (bit, or μBTC) could work for little everyday payments, and millies (mBTC) for larger ones. I'm not familiar with these names yet, but I predict that in the future they will be more common. Like -how much is this coffee? -5 micros; or -how much does that car cost? -255 millies...

I think that it depends on the amount of Bitcoin we're considering and also the fraction of Bitcoin you intend measuring. While Satoshi will be good mostly for smaller transactions due to it high level of precision, micro bitcoin on the other hand  is mostly suitable for small to medium size transaction and since mili Bitcoin seems to be closer to the traditional currency, it will be convenient for a much bigger transaction.

I think that for the sake of putting users into consideration when it involves the use of Bitcoin in normal transaction, it's most likely that Micro and milli Bitcoin would be the most preferable to use.

Let's take for instance that In the future bitcoin gets to 1BTC=$100k then
μBTC= $0.1 which is very much easier to make reference to while making any transaction.

If we're relating this to mili Bitcoin, then if
1BTC=$100k then
 1 mBTC=$100 which is what's conversant with most people.

Apart from the precision that the use of Satoshi might profer, in terms of usability and convenience, μBTC and mBTC will work well in the future when Bitcoin becomes too big a value and gains the level of adoption that could make it possible to do most transaction with Bitcoin.

We should honestly be solely using either BTC or sats only, to make it a lot simpler for everyone entirely. The others are just useful in rare cases(I actually never used them myself as normies haven't even heard of them) but are entirely unnecessary complication in my opinion.

Yes exactly! It's  fine to know how it's  always calculated incase  someone is in a situation where he needs to do the conversion to these unit but the major conversion  should still be in  BTC to Sats  which almost everyone  is used to without a u confusion

Exactly, and the letter is called 'mu' in greek and 'micro' when talking about prefix. Totally unnecessary complication in my book. Also take note that we don't have a different denominator for every decimal place with fiat money.

If anything, people just know the 'μ' letter from μTorrent(uTorrent) lol.
