On this day last year, I did not notice any celebration of the Bitcoin Pizza day outside of this forum, or did you notice anyone from people who are not in this forum? This year, I have noticed that Bitcoin Pizza day is gaining more relevance as I noticed that people outside this forum even organized an event marking the day, even going to the extent of renting an event space and having branded materials.

What it means for me is that bitcoin is advancing in our country even with the way things dey for our country, and if these kind events continue, it will positively affect the number of people who are interested in bitcoins and have bitcoins in our country

I was not in the event, and I wonder what was discussed, I just hope that the main reason behind the day was shared to the people who attended because definitely it is not everyone that attended the event that is an investor yet.

Yes since they have lifted the ban on cryptocurrencies I don't think we should be afraid of coming out to celebrate bitcoin pizza day but even though the government are more interested in p2p exchange transactions but I don't see it convenient enough to be too exposed to the public about cryptocurrency, everything can be done on a low or just on forum here without appearing physically since our government cannot be trusted because we know how funny they can behave so we ought to be very careful and vigilant.

There was never a ban in the first place; all we've had since 2021 is limits on bank crypto transactions, which is why you can still access crypto-related exchanges, websites, and forums. If the government ever bans cryptocurrency in Nigeria, it will impose a DNS-level ban on all cryptocurrency-related websites.

I actually haven't been to one of the bitcoin oizate events Day but wish to somedays. I really want to have that experience of how the event settings would look like the agendas of the day and how bitcoin Investors maybe tendered to being exposed to the public since such being bitcoin of Investors investors has been unsafe not to be hunted by the government but if those criminal minded people.
I also wish to withness that excitements of non bitcoin investors being craving with all Interests to adopt the use of bitcoin not just for investment purposes but also for their alternative means of making payments.

Op, to my best of understanding about the actions of the government over cryptocurrencies, they're only grudged with the centralized exchange that is associated with the naira and not those as us who invests or deals on the crypto currencies. No need for such alarms hence it hasn't been pronounced an illegal development in the main time.

even though I don't have cut out statistics of youths in Nigeria that are directly or indirectly involved in Bitcoin, I can say this boldly that at least 60% of Nigerian undergraduate are into Bitcoin.

It's deficult to talk to a youth that's not a trader or isn't doing a freelancing job that has exposed him to Bitcoin. Because of the nature of our regulations, people just prefer to do there things on a low key without necessarily allowing others know that they are massively involved in Bitcoin and crypto but the level of Bitcoin knowledge in Nigeria suppases whatever the media is even able to carry.

If you check the 10.2M subscribers on Tap swap telegram channel, would you be surprised to find out that Nigerians might be up to 40% of the total numbers of active miners there? We've got the hustling spirit and we've digged deap into the sphare of tech. Even here on this BTT forum, we are in our numbers and the only reason why we've not gotten to the appex as the most crypto conscious nation in the world with the highest level of adoption is basically because our leaders are old men that don't really know how the system works which makes them to constant attack the Nigerian crypto ecosystem.

An average Nigeria dey wired to look for opportunities for themselves. When you have no general.support system on which you can rely you have to be very creative and Nigerian youths are very, very creative in searching out how to make a living. It is safe to attend crypto events that is organized inside Nigeria, our government has not banned cryptocurrency at anytime in the country, it is only the recent issues that they are having with Binance, and restrictions on their naira p2p and some exchange that we're withnessing the same restrictions, also CBN restricted banks from facilitating crypto transactions, which they later reversed.

There is no links in the OP to shed more light on the intention of the Bitcoin pizza day celebration, it would have given us more insights into their aim for organizing the event. Although I believe that the event will help to increase Bitcoin awareness and adoption in the country, it will be a good idea if similar events that promotes Bitcoin will be organized in different parts of Nigeria. I am aware of a Bitcoin pizza competition in the forum, I am looking forward to the contest, as an observer.

Celebrating this event openly is not even wrong, like our government will say anything negative about this celebration I doubt because bitcoin pizza celebration na world wide and na very open something wey no be like investment because I no fit say na everybody for that occasion dey hold bitcoin so if the government should hold them what’s the evidence? I was going to talk about the scare of government personnels crashing the event and maybe prosecuting the attendees, until I saw this question and must quip that it shows that with more participation and attention to such kind of Bitcoin events and seminars, the government will have no choice than to allow exchanges exist and even if cryptocurrency is regulated, it will be accepted as a recognized means for payments before or after transactions and services rendered.

I am not disputing or quoting you wrong that cryptocurrency were not banned initially by Nigerian government but you should know that when those crypto banking platforms and transactions were limited it was almost equivalent to a ban because it appears like a restriction and most people in the crypto space were not open to make transactions frequently and even though crypto exchanges and websites were not restricted but some people stored their crypto assets in USDT and didn't perform much of p2p operations to convert their cryptos to fiat but when it was announced that the federal government lifted the ban in December 2023, individuals within the crypto space were more confident in performing p2p transactions without fear of any kind and most cryptocurrency exchange platforms gained a lot of users from Nigeria.

I know that the activities or restrictions of the federal government didn't stop most of the people in the crypto industry then because a lot of them were doing it on more 'coded level'. However even though the restrictions was more focused on cryptocurrency banking systems but a ban is a ban because if there was none this news would not have came up.

I agree with you C.Tim that bitcoin isn't illegal in Nigeria, so to say,  cause to me this statement apparently sounds ironical to me when I think of how the same government have ordered the closure and freeze of any bank account suspected to be be used for crypto p2p trading particular Fintech banks accounts, and even going to the extent of charging exchanges like binance, kucoin to delist the Naira from it's p2p, a channel through which Nigerians use with ease to make crypto transactions. Now everyone trader is so careful about using crypto related words in p2p transaction when transferring fiat from the buyer to seller to avoid been hooked in their net. Same country we say crypto or bitcoin isn't banned. I call it a smokescreen or a facade.
