I would focus too in Casascius pieces.
Iconic .A piece of history. Not much to say.
By the way, any collectibles made during first years has a strong appeal for collectors.
But casascius (even unloaded) deserve a piece in any collection bitcoin-related.

Actually, as active makers, I consider POLYMERBIT the one that deserve a top spot.
I enjoy a lot krogoth (cypherhold) works too.
with limited mints and unconventional design, I guess he deserve an high spot in this pyramid too.

Definitely would agree the Polymerbit has been one of the most innovative with his designs and security features & one of the very few note makers in this space! You've got to give credit to Alpen of course, Kialara, bigtimespaghetti, Satori, I mean shoot there are so many to even list. I too would agree that Mojo is very under rated and there are a lot of sleepers here on his stuff! I am so mad I missed the recent squirrilbits that just dropped only yesterday and filled so fast!

I think that there is a grail piece for every maker & that is what I would love to see. It would surely be fantastic to see a type of pyramid structure, what would be even more impressive though would be to have a text book built in the fashion of a timeline that would actually represent the history of this space and show examples of coins in the order of release. What a story that un-made book would tell!

A timeline in this kind of fashion? https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5412935.0

Would for sure help....a person would need to find the time and resources to gather all the info thru the years for sure!

Bitbills...they were the first and everyone else followed.

As for physical Bitcoin loaded coins...Casascius first batch first day loaded coins....very fucken rare and impossible to come by!

As for non loaded items...1000 BTC gold Casascius coin....for sure.

Bitbills might have been first but Casascius is probably the  best known "brand". Already its
been mentioned here the most. I find it really difficult to get to grips with the many variants

A personal grail for me, would be the entire Squirrelbits collection. From the early try-outs made out of empty soda cans Tongue, to the magnificence of todays pieces.

GrtzTank

That would be a very difficult task, but a fun one to undertake. Too many custom 1 of 1s, 1 of 2s, prototypes, raffle prizes only, 3 piece sets... list goes on and on. and no physical list to actually look at (Yoda probably has one)

I can say that I have every standard /21 release from 2022 - current, but had to bow out on the low mintage pieces as I'm just a peasant out here collecting cans for my btc.

Nice P.

Trying to catch up with any maker's collectibles at this stage is an impossible task,
even more so when the offerings are very low mintages to begin with

Thats a great point tread, maybe focussing on a grail piece from a collection of
makers is a doable task or even a "key" piece from a selection of makers.

Agree...Casascius is more known and he made more as far as quantity goes and also in the form of a coin...was around for many more years as well...and thats what makes Bitbills more appealing to me....the first physical....and so few made that many people were not aware they existed and did not know they were the first. Hence my motto ...The Stone the masons rejected was the cornerstone. Also I remember times in the way past they would show up and not that many people were into acquiring any.   Thanks for sharing...the buyer also has to pay a premium so in reality it went for a higher price for the buyer.

They are Bitcoin history that someday will be displayed at the Smithsonian Museum

I submit the BTCC Error Block - funded by 2x25 BTC coinbase outputs back in 2016. Shared some information and pictures here: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5500105.0

I think that pieces that can never be replicated (either due to their cultural value ala Casascius and Bitbills, or due to limitations of the linear progress of time such as pieces funded by coinbase rewards) have the highest standing. I love and heavily collect the work of newer creators like Polymerbit and CryptoImperator and BitcoinPenny, but their pieces are art over crypto history.

This is a quick pyramid diagram I typed up! This is how I view physical bitcoin pieces and how I look at them when making purchases for resale or if I need to hide the piece in the back corner of the safe.  Grin

I didn't put specific names in sections, because they will be different for everyone depending on taste and funds available. It will give you a general idea of where to be. Over time you will find the pieces you really like and just become a expert on those.

Its similar to asking what is the best US/World coin to collect? I look at short term profits and long term potential over 100's of years. Depends on what your goal is.
Some will say pennies are the best series to collect and some want the more difficult private rare gold pieces to collect.

If you aren't sure on your purchase, you should be "buying the book first" or asking your more experienced peers. Smiley A rule of thumb would be to stack the earliest pieces you can afford, funded on precious metals. If you can't afford it, look at newer pieces that are funded, rare and on precious metals, because in 10 years, a lot of them will merge with the unaffordable pieces now. When the majority moves in one direction in a market, I usually move in the opposite direction. Most people are to emotional for that though.

Yes, The lines will be blurred between a lot of the different sections. Pieces that dont have enough BTC to even be redeemed are probably treated more like BF pieces or just art.

If I had to put one at the top, I'd say the 1 oz gold 1000 BTC Cas Round or the funded Cas Bar.

I had to do it...

Lol, well said. I’ve got a few others in mind to put at the bottom of the pyramid.

At the top unquestionably are BitBills and Casascius, they stand alone. Tier 2- Kialara & BTCC. Then tier 3 and so forth. For me I’m tiering (is this a word ?) them personally on historical value as well as personal favorites. Kialara would be on the very top if it came down to my overall love of which I like best. Tho BB and Cas were first and second, respectively, so they edge out Kialara for that reason. BTCC holds a ton of weight due to design, material as well as who made them (obviously a very famous person in the crypto world as well as having used virgin coins from their owned mined blocks. Lots of sexiness there).

Wow, I've got to say that I love those stamps krogoth! I didn't know you made those & the backing of that 3D printed coin too was a suprise I didn't know it was an actual coin you made like that so cool!

Yes a timeline similar to that, just a history book would of the collectibles would be incredible and certainly a very hard task to track all of that down!! But someone could pull it off and make it really quite nice. I could see an auction house wanting to do something like that in order to educate their buyers and attract more interest into the market.

Thats a great point tread, maybe focussing on a grail piece from a collection of
makers is a doable task or even a "key" piece from a selection of makers.

Its a daunting task to try and collect them are but you've got to hand it to the guys that are pulling that off. I hope that they will display their pieces at least for themselves to enjoy.
