i have two instance to project on this subject matter regarding a good leader that promises a corrupt free governance but will have to go through a corrupt electoral system just to get into office.

1. would you rather have him advocate for citizens to vote him legitimately because he wants to prove that he is not a corrupt leader and then fall into the trap of being rigged out into failure by an opposition that is ready to do anything to get themselves in office

or

2. play the normal political way of rigging an election just to increase his chance of winning the election and then effect the change that is necessary when he finally wins.

we all know that even if you have the best of plan for your nation and aspire to become her leader, passing through the electoral process legitimately will never allow a person that is not corrupt to win the election since the winner is usually who rigs more. would you rather take number (1 or 2) if you consider yourself an incorrupt leader?

nigerans can relate to what played out between peter Obi and the current president both of which used one of the option that didn't favor the one that considered himself a saint.

Relating it to the Nigerian government as you said, even if the goal of the presidential candidate Peter Obi was to change the country positively there is no way he would have won through rigging because he has no power on anything in the country and the only people with high connections what his major rival, those rigging is mostly when the candidate has seen that he may likely loss since the masses are going one side but as for Obi the masses was for him, so if he cannot win with all the masses how will he get power to rigg?. The question afterwards would be, is he also part of those rigging election or would he be seen as someone who acted in outmost good fate to safe the country and reshape her direction. So for me I see the saying of if you can't beat them then join them to get to that destination you feel you can begin to operate from to be to untie those things that have held the system in captivity. Trump joined them in the past election and never allowed them to rig him out because he knows he has the support of the majority.

There are some countries that have never experienced free and fair elections. Except for using violence, which might result in the loss of life and destruction of property, I support a good leader to gain power by all possible means. In my country, regardless of how qualified and prepared you are for an elective position, you must have to buy votes to win elections. The electoral process has been designed so that candidates would have to induce voters to get their mandate. I know that such a leader would have to steal to get back what he has invested in the elections, but if they have good intentions for the country, I support them in recovering their money, but they shouldn't be greedy.

It's not even easy to change a corrupt system that Brought you in, if at all you want to change the system you have to be very strong. Number 2 may sound beautiful, but the reality of it happening may be far from realities (that's being a good leader from a corrupt process may not be possible). To a point, it can be extremely beautiful nonsense. The process can determine the outcome....

Number 1 is very challenging but that's the way because even a devil can act like a Saint just to get in. So therefore, it is not really about appearing like a Saint because it should at least be a normal playing ground for elections to be conducted with an ACCEPTABLE percentage of free and fair process.

Let that devil appear like a Saint and then the people vote in his/her favor or not
Also let that saint contest for the people to vote in his/her favor or not.

Not that there can't be  corrupt electoral processes but at least it shouldn't be so obvious as it has been in the mentioned country(Nigeria) where free and fair elections are fairy-tales.. Where winner won't even have a court judgements in their favor even with more than clear evidences.

Nigeria is in West Africa, this part of the world can't have an election without violence and corruption, because the system is corrupt and can't produce a good leader. Which have affected us badly. Any leader that's is declare in any Election in West Africa rig that election and he must be a bad leader.

The process of winning election in this part of the world is very difficult without money, the electoral commission chairman is Been appointed by the president so tell me why would he not work for Mr president to secure his seat.

You have to bribe the electoral officers with money to win the election, and if u don't have money don't bother no matter you good plans for the country you won't win.  This fraud in our electoral processes aid politicians to embezzle funds meant for development of the country for another election. most times, attempting to destroy the system and people that brings you into certain leadership position might result in them making your tenure as uncomfortable as possible until you are left with the option of either resigning or frustrated to not achieving any meaningful goal till the expiration of your tenure. politics is crazy and takes a lot of compromise to get a position and maintaining that position will only work when you are ready to continue on the part that brought you into that position.

if you use money, influence, corruption and even killing to get yourself into a given position, you will need to use same energy to keep yourself in that position. that is how dirty the political system has gotten.

I think that it's high time that good people in Nigeria start going into politics so that they can get rid of the bad ones. Nigeria problem is that the good people abandoned politics for the corrupt ones and that's why the system is very corrupt. I believe that if good people start going into politics, someday, we will have them in power and things will change for good. Anyone who wants to make a difference in politics should do the right thing. Come out clean and contest the election. If he is that good, he will gain the support of his people. Remember, corruption is very tempting. Apart from this, the success of a state does not depend solely on the president. I still wonder how an honest president intends to deliver corruption-free governance when every other member of his cabinet is corrupt, including the people he is leading.

We all have to understand that corruption is in everywhere, even in the United States and we should it be brainwashed that the European countries or the United States do not have their own corrupt system. This world is general corrupt and sometimes the people from the West would want us to believe that our own type of corruption is the worst. It's possible to produce a good leader from a faulty electoral system, let's say that I applied for a position that would give me the power to make some positive changes, in order to achieve my goals I'm ready to do anything to see that my goals are achieved even if it includes passing through corruption, every presidential candidate has someone in the forefront calling the shots and they are always in the background making things easier for their candidate. As long as I'm not using my hands to impose corruption in the system, I will definitely play along to achieve my goals first and then after I can implement changes to the system as I have always wanted. There's corruption everywhere and the possible way to stop it is by using corruption too.

Are we implicitly talking about Nigeria? Because I had no idea such a country had a voting system which could be considered to be rigged or faulty, to be honest. I thought the voting system was fair, but the influence over the people of the country was in the hands of the so called god-fathers.
Regardless of the country, I think it is possible for a faulty system to produce an authentic leader who wishes the best for his nation, but that person getting into power is a completely different story, it would highly depend on the culture of such society and the will of the people to deposit their trust on that new face in politics, sometimes an overwhelming amount of participation and votes can overcome cheating and a faulty system, it is something I have witnessed myself in the past, here in my country...

If he is really a good leader and wants clean governance, then he should protest if the electoral system is corrupt. Every country should have an honest and clean election. Every country's constitution demand a clean election so the candidate's mandate is legit, he can go to the court or the election board to protest and the citizen will back him up on his cause

A good leader never partake in any kind or form of fraud or cheating; he cannot institute a change if his mandate comes through fraud, and if people find out, he will lose his reputation and people will think that he is a wolf in a sheep's clotching.
