Bitcoin mining has been criticized for its energy consumption but many operations are shifting to renewables. Will Bitcoin eventually become a net positive for the environment through sustainable mining or will regulators use energy concerns to justify stricter control and bans?

The truth is that critics will always find a way and reason to criticize, and once one reason for their criticism has been settled, they'll quickly look for another reason to base their criticism on.

This will also be the same for regulators because, as long as they have an issue with Bitcoin, they will continue to look for reasons to crack down on miners and their operations.

This topic has been discussed repeatedly over the past couple years, people have different opinions regarding it, personally, i believe energy consumption is a net positive regadless, all of this green world concept thing is just propaganda to me.

Cherry picking, a lot of different activities go around the glove that lead to higher energy consumption and greenhouse gases.

if you give those articles importance you are just doing them a favor. I think governments went beyond that for now considering bitcoin becoming a strategic reserve for US.

I dont see any bans or anything happening, the number of miners in the world is limited and the energy they use is also limited not making any significant impact on the bills. Why would such regulators even care?

I mean, if I were mining, i'd lobe knowing my setup could run on sunshine or rivers instead of just burning through power. It's cool because it might even help grow clean energy which I'm all about.
It's hard to imagine that if you're living where the price of renewable energy is quite expensive tho. Not to mention the ROI from mining will take years to make the investment break even. I doubt the average miners care that much about contributing to renewable energy if their profit is not secured, to begin with. That being said, I believe it will be cheaper in the future. Not sure if it will change how much it will be used for mining though. CMIIW.

Interesting but here goes.

The icecaps have melted and the earth was pretty much ice free in the past.

People survived it.

Russia
USA(Alaska)
Canada
Greenland
Norway
Sweden
Finland
Iceland

all would gain if the caps melt.

India
Pakistan
Bangladesh

would suffer along with any tropical low lying country.

My guess is Russia can not be prevented from melting the caps.

so the musky trumpeter has switched sides and is fighting to grab Greenland (big and empty)

I also know Russia and the USA  have taken thousand of deep core samples of Alaska Greenland and Russia so they know what is locked in there. Under the tundra.

So My guess is they want to go melt shit method.

Here in the USA mining gear grows like mad.

Correct, whenever there is an economic incentive, people will find ways to capitalize on it, whether through legal or illegal means. History has shown that industries such as prostitution, drug trade, arms sales, and even healthcare have all been shaped by financial interests. As long as there is profit to be made, efforts to prevent exploitation often struggle to succeed and then eventually fail.

In the end, power tends to flow toward wealth, and those who control valuable resources will always seek ways to maximize their gains regardless of the environmental effect, if they make more money when you drive an EV, they will force you to it; if the economic incentive shifts towards gas cars -- they would force you to go back to it.

Renewable energy exists but they are not for free, when people talk about green energy it always sound as if its green grass where they grow on the ground in every location.

Green energy is still something you have to pay for, I am sorry to say but you people need to stop looking for ways to avoid paying for electricity bill, even if you have money to set up green energy remember that you have to make the money back, and believe me it will be a lot.

Here is an assignment for you, do your findings on green energy of your type, and pick one then try to set one up that can run a Bitcoin Asic miner with 3500 watts per hour and let's see how much you will spend on the energy setup.
