Hello, I want to share my case so that a KuCoin moderator or agent can review it:

Incident date: December 10, 2024
Withdrawal TxID: 0x092f9c8b83c5…d33d
Network used: OPBNB (not supported by KuCoin)
Amount lost: 165.96218938 USDT
The circumstances: I made a withdrawal from Binance to my KuCoin account using the OPBNB network by mistake. The transaction shows as completed, but the funds never arrived at KuCoin.
At first, support told me it was impossible to recover these USDT, but later they mentioned a possible recovery under unclear conditions. I live in Argentina, where every dollar matters due to the economic crisis, and I kindly ask a supervisor to review my case and authorize the return of my funds.
Please, This post is to report and document the loss of 165 USDT with KuCoin.

Las circunstancias fueron que realicé un retiro desde Binance hacia mi cuenta de KuCoin, usando la red OPBNB por error. La transacción aparece como completada, pero nunca recibí mis fondos en KuCoin.
Inicialmente el soporte me dijo que era imposible recuperar esos USDT, pero luego mencionaron una posible recuperación bajo condiciones poco claras. Vivo en Argentina, donde cada dólar cuenta mucho por la crisis económica, y necesito que por favor un supervisor revise mi caso y autorice la devolución de mis fondos.
Este post tiene el propósito de dejar constancia pública de la pérdida de 165 USDT en la red OPBNB con KuCoin, vinculada al ticket #10245480, para que quede registrado y sea revisado.

Sorry about the loss but it was your fault. Do not withdraw to unsupported chain on exchanges. Supposing you withdraw the USDT to your address on a noncustodial wallet, it would have been a different case. You will be able to have access to the coin and spend it whenever you like.

The coin is with Kucoin.

Some exchanges do help with recovering unsupported coins and sends them back to you which makes we users to develop a bad habit of hoping the next exchange does the same VIP treatment **been there done that**, unfortunately some do even give these warnings when retrieving the deposit address of sending any unsupported coins will be lost but place a blind eye on the warning ⚠️ .. btw, the only way this would have happened is if coins were coming from a third party and they sent using a chain you thought was supported.. happened to me with redotPay.

I also think this process is not free, as you will need to pay fees for them to assist you with the recovery. Take a look at the table attached in the link. This process may also take up to 5 days.

There is always a way for such a thing; the OP just needs to be patient and follow their annoying support system, and they will help recover the funds. It can even take more than those 5 days, just like what I experienced with Binance when I mistakenly sent an unsupported coin to the exchange. I was charged either 5% of the asset or 10%; I can’t remember the exact figure. Immediately I agreed with them, my coin was reversed back to the same address that I used in sending it there.

In most cases, on almost all major centralized exchanges, they won't restore it. Especially (sorry to say) if they deem it to be of such small value that it's not worth the potential long-term risk. I think they place this warning somewhere in the withdrawal/deposit wizard.

Since this recovery must be done manually (usually, txes are only executed based on automated commands triggered by user accounts), it's a complex process even if they attempt it. Simply put, they'd have to dismantle a "smart cabinet" containing thousands of keys just to find one. Dismantling the cabinet itself (which shouldn't be easily accessible to anyone) is a major leak and undermines the overall security integrity.

They want to help you for a fee, which sometimes happens with different exchanges. Yours is not an isolated case but in most cases, they usually never refunds anything especially if they do not support the network

You should inquire from them how much fee is required and if it's not that much compared to what you want to recover, you should go ahead and accept the deal.

Good link, there is 80 USDT fee for recovering unsupported chains,

Also they mention that they will only send it back to the address it came from, so OP will have to contact binance as well if they are able to credit him for that.

Maybe they might charge a fee as well, but doesnt look like OP will get more then 80-85 USDT back regardless
