Did he use all his bitcoin to pay for it? I hope he kept some because 10,000 bitcoins today are worth $800+ million.
A funny moment for everyone else but the buyer who is crying not celebrating.

Did the pizza place actually accept his bitcoin for payment? Or did he convert to cash before buying?

Yes he used 10,000 Bitcoin to buy pizza and I doubt at that time if he actually saw any future in holding Bitcoin, but we can not completely know because after that there was still enough time for him to get back on track if he actually wanted to do so.
Although it wasn't rampant for a pizza house to collect Bitcoin but in this case that was the situation. Deep down I will feel that it would be justification is that 10,000 Bitcoin was held by who received it.

It was may 22nd 2010 and it's one of the biggest celebration in bitcointalk

He stated like you quoted on the 18th that he would buy the pizza
But the transaction took place on the 22nd of May

I just want to report that I successfully traded 10,000 bitcoins for pizza.

Pictures: http://heliacal.net/~solar/bitcoin/pizza/

Thanks jercos!
It seems you do not understand my question. I said why do we celebrate the day the transaction was executed but fail to celebrate the day the idea was initiated? That's my simple question. Because the idea was initiated on May 18th 2010.. Because without the idea that was made public on May 18th, there never would have been the transaction that took place on 22nd May.

Check this below 👇

I'll pay 10,000 bitcoins for a couple of pizzas.. like maybe 2 large ones so I have some left over for the next day.  I like having left over pizza to nibble on later.

I mean obviously, an idea is just an idea. There would be too much dates to remember if you still want to celebrate this one. It would not make sense as there is only a few days apart anyway. Better to celebrate the actual execution instead. You do not celebrate when the idea was birthed but when the idea came into life.

He used BTC as it should be used - and didn't mourn the situation a bit.

A true legend, all the rest - it's history.

The most important on that time is to make a milestone of purchasing tangible things with Bitcoin.  His action pave way for Bitcoin adoption worldwide.  About Laszlo Hanyecz view on Bitcoin, all we got is speculation since he never publicly express his view on Bitcoin, he even did not disclose his Bitcoin holdings.  It is arguable whether Laszlo did not see any future in holding Bitcoin.  It can only be answered by Laszlo Hanyecz himself.

Although it wasn't rampant for a pizza house to collect Bitcoin but in this case that was the situation. Deep down I will feel that it would be justification is that 10,000 Bitcoin was held by who received it.

The person who received the payment is Jeremy Sturdivant and no the 10k BTC payment were not held instead was spent since Jeremy Sturdivant saw the opportunity to participate in the growing Bitcoin experiment.[1]

Agreed!

And if a person wants, he can celebrate each day as something worth celebrating: in short, it's up to each person to choose what to see as an event worth of praise and effort Wink
