To learn hand work good oh but many people no really know why and na now them don dey see reasons why e good to learn hand work especially some wey go service, after school nah wetin remain? White collar job abi

This is one major problem many Nigerian youths also faced, many of them no no the importance of hand work because some of our parents fail to guide there children, no direction and talks to sharpen there mindset in preparation for adulthood. So some just grow dey follow the life like dat, anywhere E carry dem go, no problem. Na now so many of us they realise say hand work good.

I have heard so many people say, ''if to say I know, I for go learn hand work after secondary school instead of this school I go, or instead of to stay for house since''. This statement is a clear indication that such persons never knew the importance of getting a skill. Am also a victim of this, thinking of higher education even when I know there was no money to further, then I sat at home, got a private school teaching job and stayed there for up to 10yrs, just imagine. Na later I come dey think say if I to say I no, I for don go learn skill.

Even though there are still areas where people learn skills and pay much attention to apprenticeship, but there is a general decline, Yea, a drastic decline. I must say that some of the reasons for the decline a real and genuine while some are just wrong reasons to me.

*Online jobs(not yahoo)- the internet has become an abode for making clean money for our knowledgeable youths. Lots of work such as the web3, freelancing jobs, affiliate marketing, drop shipping, online survey job, forest trading and investment platforms, designing and so many others. A youth who has learnt such skill online early enough would prefer staying indoors working and getting paid rather than take plenty instructions under hit sun and pressure from his OGA and senior apprentice. And you know, some of these jobs pays in dollars, you can compare the value of dollars and Naira and make your choice. These are nice and genuine work that can keep any youth out of apprenticeship for life.

*Then internet fraudsters(yahoo boys) This one Na the oga kpata kpata now wey dey reign for our youths now. I believe in almost every remote and a bit developed area now in the country, 50% of the youths are involved in yahoo. Because they have seen others make it, build houses, buys cars, and live a better in terms of spending, they all move that way. It's a quick money making work, so they don't care of any consequences, they do the dirty work, and get the money, after all, ALL DIE NA DIE,  thats there reply each time you try to talk sense to them.

So generously, i no go really blame anybody wey no dey workshop, or they learn any skill. So long as you are doing something that fetches you money, either indoor or outdoor, all we need is the money to make life better. But it's better we get a good and legal means of getting the money rather than defraud people there hard earned money, it's really a bad means, because if you too are defrauded, you no go like an at all.. let's do the right thing and let it be you own role in making the country a better place for all of us.

I like as you talk your mind for this matter. E good to dey honest because inasmuch as we dey support the talk of learning a trade or skill, you go hardly see person wey go tell him pikin to go learn vulcanizer work when better ones like this tech you mention.
The wan wey dey break my heart pass na wen I see physically challenged boys, especially those wey get down syndrome, cripple, partially blind or unreasonably ugly people, wey dem parents or guardians push into those type of work. D thing de sadden me, I nor go lie. D best thing wey anybodi go do for any physically challenged persin na to give am betta exposure for education. Train dem for betta school and choose courses wey make sense and dey relevant for society, nor be to further condemn dem to penury by telling dem to acquire skills wey people nor too regard.
The way I see am for the case of these people you mention na be say the guardians dey feel say as them look "condemned" e go be waste of time and money to put them for beta school or a good course wey go help them since to them such opportunities nah "well able" and "normal" children suppose dey learn am. E dey very sad make I no lie and although I never see these group of people dey learn such, but I don see them dey hawk goods, but still, the best way to help these special needs children nah to give them good education as you talk.

I believe the main reason why youth is no longer interested in acquiring skill issues as a result of the country economy.
With the nature of the economy so many people are finding it difficult to survive including people that has skills however when it comes to people that into online business you see them flourishing .  This I believe is the main reason why majority of the youth are no longer interested in learning skills but rather there interest is in online business. Nobody will want to venture into something that won't really pay off well in the future, because they have compare people who are into skills and people that are into online business before reaching the conclusion of going for online business.

While growing up, it is common to see young men going to learn technical or vocational skills in Nigeria. They will become apprentices in mechanical, electrical, carpentry,  plumbing, vulcanizing, and other skills. If you go to this workshop, you will see many youths there learning skills.

These days, the number of young people who are learning this handwork has reduced drastically. These workshops These days are somehow empty and you will see mostly men in their forties and fifties.

I was discussing with a mechanic today and he told me that the youths are now focused on online jobs. He said many of the apprentices who came to learn skills dropped out. He claimed that most of them are impatient and want quick money.

He claimed that these youths are now focused on G and Naija bet. I don't know how true his reasons are. How you reason am?

I agree with the fact that large number of youths now are no longer learning skills such observation is very valid but however, it absolutely nothing to worry about because life is filled with several opportunities and perhaps nature might be taken certain revolutionary changes where things can still turn around again maybe in up coming generations but for now we can only make what we see now without being too worried, we can't completely run out of those with skills no matter what, naija bet is gambling not a job and it is only those that have that can gamble although there are still those working as agents and this put money in their pocket.

everything you have just explained is nothing but the truth and i can confirm that. there was a time i was looking for people to do some miniature work for me at home but it was difficult, i searched and searched even the few that agreed to do the work told me they cant do it, that they are managing the work i gave them, that no one is ready to do all this type of job again. sincerely speaking the youth are no longer ready to learn physical skill but online skill. the funny part is that some are not even learning any skill atoll but are just being too lazy by following the crowd when they dont have anything to offer i.e they dont have both physical and online skill. am afraid the trend of [G]and online job will make some people not have an area of specification.

Things have changed alot about Nigeria and the youths. Gone are those days when Nigerian youth knew nothing about bitcoin and online business, they dwelled on Apprenticeship and learning trades under people, but now, things have changed, the world is now digitalised and it got to Nigeria and we know our country that the moment they start doing something, they become very good at that thing to the extent that they will take charge of it and dominate nations.
Now, most of our youths know more about digital marketing, bitcoin and cryptocurrencies, thereby making them abandon Apprenticeship and learning a trade under somebody.
