Are you aware of the bitcoin beach? El Zonte is a town in La Libertad Department in El Salvador. A popular tourist destination, El Zonte has been described as a "world surfing mecca". Playa El Zonte became one of the first locales in El Salvador to accept Bitcoin as a payment method, and inspired the country's adoption of Bitcoin as a legal tender. (Wikipedia)

"The project Bitcoin Beach is creating a sustainable Bitcoin Economic ecosystem on the coast of El Salvador, where the majority of people do not have access to bank accounts and the local businesses could never qualify for merchant accounts needed to accept credit cards."

After El Salvador had to make a deal with IMF and IMF not being the biggest fan of bitcoin, I wonder how this beach is doing now? Is bitcoin still accepted? How did it affect them?

Never held of that beach before and also do not know how they are fairing right now with the IMF interruption in El Salvador bitcoin but my major interest was to know if the beach was predominantly dedicated to bitcoin and they only used bitcoin as payment method in the beach, like when you go there everyday and expenses are made using bitcoin?

I will do some reading about it! and what first stroke my mind when I read the OP was that the Beach is shaped with the bitcoin logo lolz   Cool that will really make sense.

El Zonte's Bitcoin Beach was already running way before El Salvador accepted Bitcoin as a legal tender. So, I don't see any reason why the country's removal of Bitcoin's legal tender status thanks to IMF's loan condition would make any difference.

However, as when it was launched, the challenges are always there. Bitcoin is still far from being the ideal currency of people, tourists and locals alike. There's the handy and convenient cash accepted wherever you go. And who wants to spend Bitcoin really?

I'm sure the Bitcoin hype in El Salvador has died down. This must have affected El Zonte's attraction as a place with a Bitcoin circular economy, but not as a tourist spot. So, if you're a Bitcoin and surfing junkie, El Zonte is always a place to go.

By the way, just 5 days ago, there was a Bitcoin Beach Dinner there. A month ago, the beach also hosted a 10-day Bitcoin Beach Fellowship for Bitcoin community leaders from Peru. They'll be learning firsthand about building a Bitcoin circular economy. So, yeah, it's still there very much alive and kicking and spreading the Bitcoin philosophy.

I would also be curious about an update on Bitcoin Beach.  The friends I have who have been there and reported back told me that they don't actually use Bitcoin there.  Sure, it is "accepted" everywhere, but it isn't used.  When people want to use crypto, I'm told they use USDT on the Tron network most commonly and will even ask for that before Bitcoin.  Is this still true?  I find it a little hard to believe that anyone would choose to use the Tron network, but if it's cheaper and that's what they're used to...  Anybody have any comments on this?  I've heard this from multiple individuals who have been there and don't know each other...

After El Salvador had to make a deal with IMF and IMF not being the biggest fan of bitcoin, I wonder how this beach is doing now? Is bitcoin still accepted? How did it affect them?

Am not in El-Salvador, but I could remember that there's no any news feed telling about how bitcoin use on the El-Zonte beach in El-Salvador has rejected the acceptance of bitcoin.

As of now, there's no stoppage in the use of bitcoinin El-Salvador because there have been ever progressive utilities on bitcoin in almost every aspect of their economy, to the point that has attracted for the new establishments to come in place for their businesses in the country.

Bitcoin is fully functional in El-Salvador till date. However, some percentage of the citizens ae complaining that the government should stop spending more of the country's money in Bitcoin. To them it looks like their government is indirectly stealing the money claiming they are spending it on Bitcoin for the growth of the economy. Although, ever since the government started buying Bitcoin in El-Salvador the economy has not been better, neither did it become worst, its still the same way. The truth is, we shouldn't expect quick growth and returns when we invest in Bitcoin, this is what the citizens do not understand.

I'd heard on radio somewhere that while the stretch exists, there are very few transactions. Can't really tell as anyone who brings it up doesn't seem to want to really take an objective view. This local piece from last year suggests the vendors are happy (but hey, who isn't on ATH?).

This post from reddit 10 months ago tells me a bit of what I'd always suspected: people accepting Chivo wallet payments (which isn't really the same as using BTC).

The first comment is from a Bloomberg journalist who said people got annoyed back in 2022 when he asked to use Bitcoin.

I'll let you know myself when I'm there. In 2030.

If people who haven't been there recently and aren't locals don't know the conditions of the beach, will Bitcoin still be accepted?
If the majority of people there don't have access to bank accounts, Bitcoin certainly still exists. If it's not available because the IMF objects to it and therefore isn't used, there are certainly other options as a solution to the problem.

Didn't hear about this beach at all, and the news regarding it about too.. But as I've read through the thread, the views on it are anyway biased usually..

This is my first time hearing about this beach, and I am happy it happened that they accepted bitcoin before El Salvador did, but the fact that El Salvador stopped bitcoin as a legal tender does not affect them; they are still fully accepting of bitcoin, even as the government revoked it as a legal tender. This means that anyone can go and pay with Bitcoin for services there, and thanks to the government for not stopping its citizens from accepting Bitcoin as a tender for services, and also, the good citizens were smart enough not to act rashly because they know what the government wants, and to the IMF, they are just a bunch of lunatics who are afraid of the move by the El Salvador to remain independent hence their loan conditions to stop the progress of the El Salvador government but I believe El Salvador will not ban bitcoin in their country as they have already seen the benefit but are just being calm to get what they want from IMF and go their way.

Is El Salvador getting almost everything about bitcoin, accepting bitcoin payment method in the country, assigned a site to be used for bitcoin mining, now there is a beach for bitcoin. Just wondering what would be done on the beach or its just a name assigned to it?

El Salvador is getting into bitcoin all over the industry with everything available with them, they would not regret ever taking this bold step.

Well then that’s good to hear. IMF may have halted El Salvador’s progress but it doesn’t erase years of already established systems in which Bitcoin is a part of. I hope it continues and even spreads all throughout the country and soon the world.

I met a bunch of folks from Bitcoin Beach at the Bitcoin Miami conference a few years back and they gave me this epic sticker that I still have that I love to look at. Sure would love to check out that Bitcoin swell!!! Although rifht now it might be a little choppy 😉

From my little findings, this beach started accepting bitcoin before the government adopted bitcoin as a legal tender and from the findings, this beach was amongst one of the forefront supporters of bitcoin when it comes to organisations or structure already in place that accepts bitcoin in the country and they already set the pace before the government followed suit and till this moment, they still accept bitcoin after the government reversed their stand on bitcoin as a legal tender because of the loan they seek from IMF.

Blessed to have seen the Bitcoin Beach story. I would imagine this was a major driving force behind Bitcoins creation. "It's the old chicken or the egg question." That had me rolling! The young man who became the role model, ice supplier and now property developer shows how much greatness exist everywhere. With just a little Bitcoin you unlocked those talents without them having to leave family and friends behind. Residual returns for all. Beast Mode: [ON] OFF
