The poor economy of most countries is attributed to lack of skills and also corruption is a major obstacle to the development of a country. The citizens of the country try to live a good life, but the lack of resources in the country and the lack of efficient administration are more responsible for the increase in poverty in that country. Just because some countries are geographically poor it is not always right to blame the government for the economic decline of the country. How successful a country can be economically depends on the amount of resources. If a country has a lot of mineral resources, then with proper management that country can become a developed country but in most cases it is seen that the governments of the concerned countries do not do any effective work to eliminate poverty of the people.

In most countries with weak economies the governments are more corrupt, so they use criminals to retain power and want to retain power by intimidating the citizens. Creating skilled manpower through the development of the country's education system should be the main priority of a country's government so that an educated society is created which is most important for the development of a country. And to become economically strong, it should be the main responsibility of the country's government to educate the nation properly and use it for the development of the country.

but skill is not important for economic growth in many cases..

so its not so much about general education and skill. its about the right skill for the right need of the area. we see many many universities offering education in many mundane and unneeded courses for an area. whereby many people get degree's but then end up working in walmart because there are no jobs for them

EG no one needs a blacksmith to make horse shoes or horse vet in a big urban city
EG no one needs a bricklayer in a urban skyscraper city of steal and glass
EG no one needs a craftsman in a city of automated machines
EG no one needs a repair guy in a city of disposable products

most already developed countries economies revolve around mostly the retail, tourist, leisure, entertainment and hospitality industry. just look at your own monthly spending. where do you mostly spend your funds.. you will see apart from rent(of a home build decades ago) your current spending that goes towards current workers is in retail and leisure industry, which doesnt require high skills..

so does it really take much skill/education to pour a martini at a beach bar or make a frappuccino in starbucks or stack shelves at walmart

skills are great for developing countries that are growing physically. but if its purely about economics of established countries.. skill is less important.. it all depends on the types of needs a population has, to the require certain skills to meet those needs in certain circumstances

Universities have to revisit and review their education curriculum and do away with many of the mundane disciplines they are seriously equipping this generation with. The world has advanced and what do not serve the present state of advancements in this world should be cut out of the education system.

Much of why we still have the mundane skills and discipline having a place in the universities education of this time is because when these mundane skills/disciplines are abolished from the university curriculum it also affects the educators in those field who have refused or failed to upgrade to the latest skills of today. And since this is what goes, they preach and sell out those skills like they are still useful when it is not.

What the economy needs are creative individuals who will add value to the economy by what they have to offer to the public. Skill is good because no matter how we put it, there are some fields that needs skillful people to carry out the jobs online or offline. Education is very important but it's not a guarantee to put food on your table.

Skill is very important to a nation's development,  because those with skill can easily create jobs for themselves and when you have more citizens that are employed, it tends to improve the economic development of such nation.

I have always had the perception corruption is more harmfulmto the development of a country than skills and education is. It is because corruption takes funds from programs which are supposed to be used to pay for the education and well-being of the population.
Keeping that in mind, it is pretty much a a difficult path to try to provide education and skills to the citizens of a country if there is a very firmly established corrupt system which does not allow personal development.

Also, as a matter of fact, the corrupt and the tyrants of the world do not want their people to become intelligent, capable and educated because it would be more difficult to keep a tight control over them, the stupidest the people are, the easiest it is to keep them under control.
