Posted on April fourth: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vaPgfErzeu0Jeff Garzik, a programmer involved with Bitcoin, discusses "in layman's terms" its relevance and implication as a currency, but also how it can be expanded to the transfer of any digital asset. Wish their was a stronger speaker that could have handled this. Also I would rather someone not associated with a company or the foundation. Sad this was a huge thing and kinda a let down. Just my opinion.

I agree. Nothing against Jeff but he isnt much of a speaker. It is cool, and seems fitting, that TED aired it tho.

Cool. I've been looking forward to this since I saw Jeff was giving this talk. I had seen a text-only description of his talk, but going to watch this after KY/Wisconsin for sure. Thanks OP!

Jeff's the first to acknowledge (in the comments); "I have plenty of self-criticism... tough to bootstrap bitcoin to a general audience in 15 minutes, and I'm not the best speaker in the world."
I can barely imagine how intimidating a Ted talk would probably be to deliver the first time, not merely due to the huge, live audience, but the giant weight of expectation passed down onto that stage by a historical succession of some of the world's best orators giving some of the world's greatest recorded lectures. Add to this; the knowledge that, whatever you do, your 'own community' (the ineffable ) will undoutedbly peg you with the most brutal fucking criticism... I'd say he did just fine.

I agree. Nothing against Jeff but he isnt much of a speaker. It is cool, and seems fitting, that TED aired it tho. It's not TED, it's TEDx. TEDx is something that anyone can do. It seems like they invented it to dilute their brand and confuse people and let anyone speak about any idea and make it seem more legitimate. Trust me there are loads of garbage TEDx talks. There is a huge difference between TEDx and an actual TED talk... (in terms of quality).

But there's plenty of people around that are much better at it, so why not pass it to them? Let them do a better job to help bitcoin. Just so you know I actually practice what I peach. I have pretty much turned down or given others all my speak gigs because I know I am not a strong speaker. Hell I can barely write english here and people want me to post articles but I turn them all down mostly because I know people that will be able to do them better. So with that in mind I have to say, he could have done better or at least had Tony from Bitpay give him some pointers, I mean the first sentence he messed up and that just set the tone for a bad speech.
So lesson learned pass the torch you don't have to do everything that comes to you. We already knew Jeff wasn't a strong speaker from other gigs he has done, but to further his career and not bitcoin he still chooses to embarrass himself.
It might be naive, but I believe that most people who attend Tedtalks are rational enough to give more importance to facts rather than to the method with which words convey them. Of course a bit more charisma would not have hurted, but I'm sure he managed to get his point across and to convince many individuals of the significance of Bitcoin and what is is potential as a world-changing technology.
