I see Coinbase just announced BIP 70 support for their wallet. Does the current MultiBit version already support it, or will that not come till we we get MultiBit HD?

It does not support it unfortunately.

We want to implement it, but it is in the queue!
It'll go first into MBHD, but then we might backport it to MB Classic after that.
