This is NOT green amethyst! There is NO such thing as green amethyst! Amethyst is a variety of quartz that is purple in color. If a stone is not purple, it can not be amethyst. I repeat- there is no such thing as green amethyst.
When quartz is green, it is called prasiolite. This is a wonderful example of the stone with a lively mint green color and very good brilliance. It is also quite clean with a VS clarity grade. The stone weighs 6.27 carats and the dimensions are 10.68 x 10.21 x 7.55mm deep.
As you can see by the pictures it is a very attractive stone that is square shaped with a step cut. This makes for a sophisticated look that is ideal either for the gemstone collector or for jewelry. Because prasiolite is a "7" on the Mohs hardness scale, it is suitable for any type of jewelry.
This stone was mined in Brazil. This stone has been treated with heat and radiation.
If you have any questions about this or any other stone listed here just send me a note at
dave@tiptopgem.com. As a professional gemologist, I probably have an answer or can find one for you. And if I don't have an answer to your question I will admit that I have no idea! Gemology is full of riddles and nobody has all the answers.
