I wouldn’t even recommend using ‘lite’ wallets like Multibit or Electrum, they use a blockchain on their own servers. If the servers for Multibit or Electrum were DDoSd, or crashed for any other reason, you wouldn’t be able to use your Cryptocurrency.

This is a bit misleading.

With electrum, even when you are offline you can see all your addresses and private keys.
If electrum servers all went offline, it's true you wouldn't be able to use your coins but
you could then transfer them to another wallet without too much hassle.

In addition to all this, I really do not see what is a problem in getting a cheap latop/netbook or similar for a couple hundred $, put your wallet on it, DO NOT USE it for anything else besides your wallet and keep if OFFLINE at all times. Obviously you need to sinc your wallet from time to time. Also, adding top shelf antivirus and antispyware software is a must.

IMHO it does not matter what wallet you use. You can even use any lite wallets. The only thing you need to be sure is:

- Encrypt your wallets with STRONG password
- Keep the 'savings' wallet offline
- Keep a copy of wallets on multiple USB drives and put them at multiple secure locations like your bank locker
- Export the private keys and store them on offline device
- Print private keys on paper and put it in your bank locker

I have 1 pc and 1 laptop, pc is for fun browsing and bitcointalk and xxx  Grin  I only keep max 3BTC in my wallet on the pc.
Also I have a cheap old laptop that I only use for storing my other bitcoins, just to keep them safe.

That's indeed true, but the statement in the article is also true. Why not have the normal wallet in the first place? It takes like 3 days to synch, so it would be a major pain in the butt if multibit or electrum went down.

For me, electrum is the superior solution.

Unfortunately, if someone were new to Bitcoin and they saw this as the safest way to store coinage, they'd likely run in the other direction and want nothing to do with crypto. If people want the average boob to use this stuff and thus mainstream the price factor into largesse, ya gotta come up w/ an easier yet safe way of cold storage.
