There are 257 countries in the world. The last two, by alphabetical order, are 256º Zambia and 257º Zimbabwe.

I would like to know from where you got this data..! and also the 257 countries you mentioned are they all are Independent and Undisputed..!

There are 196 countries in the world today.
Unless you don't count Taiwan…
Taiwan is not considered an official country by many, which would bring the count down to 195 countries.

is this this topic supposed to spark some kind of discussion or debate of some sort?  Not sure I follow where the OP is going with this but I do appreciate the info even though based on others post the numbers given in the OP may not be true.

What about the unrecognized / partially-recognized nations? Such as Taiwan, Kosovo, Abkhazia.etc

Yeah exactly My point ..! I am learning php and sql.. ! and I use a database named "World " and there are around 200 +-10 countries in that database..!
