Let's say that in some way the whole Bitcoin system collapsed. Which alternative crypto-currency will you choose and why?

Litecoin Smiley
Litecoin seems to be handling itself quite well, and I'm even one of the contributors, since I'm hosting liteco.in, converting all my bitcoins to litecoins, and so on  Grin

I'm thinking LTC too....

but i don't believe BTC will crash ....

why ltc:

CPU mining makes it accessible to EVERY machine connected to the internet.

I can see mining taking over ads, especially on open source sites, giving just a small percentage of CPU power while visiting.

Also the small value of LTC makes it way more accessible to poorer nations, people, countries.

Not to mention it could be used directly as in game currency for MMORPGs due to small value.

I think NameCoin will ultimately become the most valuable crypto-currency as it's mined off the back of the Bitcoin block-chain  but it also has a purpose of being used for domain names in an alternative peer2peer DNS system which is very censor resistant.   If SOPA took off I could see .bit domain names being used a lot more.

This will happen with or without SOPA...  Wink

I think many crypto currencies will be used, but Bitcoin will be the most entrenched and trusted. Other currencies will require additional security measures that trade adaptability for protection from 51% attack.

Any significantly advanced cryptocurrency is indistinguishable from Ponzi Tulips.

It would depend on why it collapsed.

Litecoin is a pretty obvious choice for being very similar to Bitcoin, but that might mean it shares the same fate.

I've had my ideas that I've pushed for a while on how to improve Bitcoin, but rather than just forming yet another blockchain based on a couple ideas, I'm waiting at least another year or two to see what other flaws surface or good ideas are proposed.  But if Bitcoin folded tomorrow, I'd take the opportunity to just launch it, after making one last improvement: fix whatever killed Bitcoin.
