So I'm mining with AMD 7970 and 7950, they are watercooled.

I'm a bit worried incase of pump failure, is there any built int BIOS in the cards that shut them off at 90c or will my cards burn out incase of pump failure?

Also my CPU is aircooled So I can't install a software so that PC shuts of incase of overheating CPU as it's not connected to pump.

My experience (only did watercooling back in the duron/tbird days), is that the water starts to boil and if the hose clamp isn't secure enough the pressure will be so high that the hose will disconnect and spill water/steam. Ofcourse the Durons didn't have throttling or thermal protection.

well, the guy I bought my water cooled system from had two pumps.  i guess ^^ in case that happened

I have some experience with LCS and 7970.
So far, everytime the GPU overheated it would crash and a reboot would be required. In that state the GPU didn't produce heat anymore.

You can do the test yourself and pull the plug for the pump while the GPU is mining.
Incrementally wait 30sec and put the plug back. This way you learn how your system reacts in case of a pump failure Wink
I expect that the GPU will crash if the water gets too hot and that's it. Then you can wait and see how long it takes for the heat to dissipate.

BTW it helps if you overclock a bit. It makes the GPU more sensitive to high temperatures so it will crash earlier Wink

I have two pumps, but only because I need them Wink (default pump wasn't strong enough)

if cgminer is being used, you should have a cutoff temp.. 95 i believe....

Well even as cgminer has cutoff temperature, I think even at idle the GPU will overheat no?

Also Ive heard that even when idle the cgminer actually puts wattage to the card.
