I first wanted to ask if anyone had tried to splice in an atx power supply to usb extension cables as shown here

http://www.cryptocointips.com/need-more-power-for-your-overclocked-antminer-u1s-and-block-erupters/

I have followed the steps in this article, and I am having a problem. The cables are spliced correctly, and I can plug in a usb flash drive and it works great... The issue is when I plug in the antminer, the power light comes on but thats it. The computer will not see it at all.

Anyone have any thoughts on this?

Are you using a hub, if so verify the generic device is listed in device manager. Sometimes hubs with more than 4 ports use multiple IC's and the computer will only find one and give up looking for more, leaving part of your hub uninstalled.  ie. 10-port hub will show up in device manager as -generic device, generic device

I tried it both with a hub and without. Both get me my flash drive working, the light red light on the antminer comes on but no new device is showing up in device manager.

maybe its time to ensure the miner is still functioning by plugging it directly into the PC and ensuring that the device enables and the correct drivers install.

Ok, the miners all work when plugged in to the hub... or in to the computer itself. I checked the usb cord, and there is 5.02 volts getting to the plug in end of the extension, and none back feeding in to the hub itself. I then pulled it apart and tested all the wires are connecting for data on both ends. I am stumped.

What else are you using for a load on the PSU - Case Fan at 12 Volts or 5 Volts?

Just one 12 volt fan to cool them.

Try restarting the PC with the miner plugged in to your modified wire, Windows has a longer device scan timeout on boot-up. I've had USB hubs that need to be restarted several times to get both IC's recognized. The good thing is that if this works it usually will be resolved if the devices remain in the same Port while shut down. I have had two U2's that did this also, the computer found them on the third restart, about 45 sec after opening the user account.

Ok... rebooted and nothing. So, I decide to unplug one antminer, and plug in my flash drive. Whe the flash drive is plugged in, the devices are all seen.  Hmmm... ok so install all the right drivers for cgminer to work with and ... working great.

At any point if I unplug my flash drive, everything stops. at this moment, I am running great. I dont know why, but I guess sometimes that whole gift horse thing... right?

Seriously I would love anyones thoughts on why I would need to plug in the flash drive... But I want to thank you for you help either way.
