Is it possible to recognize a block was mined by a p2pool rather than a centralized pool?
Does the p2pool leave some kind of trace?

If so, maybe something can be done to incentive p2pools.

It is— e.g. you can follow the p2pool sharechain and reconize blocks consistent with it, but the soft (non-hardforking) incentivizaiton approaches require the cooperation of miners.
