Problem logging into a new S2 Antminer using a MacBook Pro OS X 10.9 and Safari

I would like to use my MacBook Pro and Safari to login to an S2 Antminer. Unfortunately when I enter the default IP address into the browser as the user manual instructs, the page request times out. Checking the Network connections in system preferences shows that the connection between the S2 Antminer and the MacBook Pro is active. Any suggestions for successful access to the S2 will be greatly appreciated.
