Do you guys think that BCT should have a control in place to limit new accounts? Everyday accounts are created and this is why we have scammers coming up with new coins and fail launches.

Take yesterday's example, MultiCoin and USB Coin, they both failed, they can very easily create a new account, rename the coin and launch again.

Every new account should be referred by a Member or higher rank to have some accountability, thus increasing chances of fair and genuine coins.

What are your thoughts?

Agreed, it was just a thought, what else can be done?

Nothing that drastic can be done, since the forum allows multiple accounts.
disclaimer: I have only one active account and do not use "sock puppets", but I support the current system.
Trying to ban multiple accounts gives people the false impression that there are not many "sock puppets" and creates tons of extra work for the staff.

The current system is relatively unique and "honest" (in an odd way), since we know there are many 'dishonest' people using multiple accounts.

LOL
this gets asked a LOT and it was only on July 12th this was posted and moved so you guys don't see it..
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=687349.new#new
moved to "META"

- There was a nooby jail so removing it helped things ? helped whom ? the forum ? the cloners ? who ?

when i regged i had to start out in the newby section before i was allowed to post in here..

anyway this will be prob get moved so you all don't see it i bet like all the other times this topic gets posted.

oh and by the way Staff have gone on the record here saying they actually advise people create new accounts..
they said create more accounts if you have something controversial to say you don't want associated with your normal account.
i have it bookmarked somewhere i think (the quote)

I understand it's their forum and they can do what they want but i think a limit is better than none.
and why would they themselves NOT want one ? think about it..
they are entitled to do what they want and i figure i am entitled to my own opinion on the matter.

i just can't help but think that i have seen no other place online that would tolerate even a bit of what goes on here with general account abuse.
i have never seen anything like this !
Bitcointalk has set an internet precedent i think LOL

There are restrictions on new accounts. You'll get high time limit, you have more mods watching you, and the community won't trust you.

i have an idea!! Why shouldn't btctalk ask for verification (government id plus something else) for people who want to launch a coin? Get them devs verified!

A while back I made a suggestion in Meta but it didn't get much feedback. I suggested putting viewing ability limits on threads made in the Alternate Cryptocurrencies sub-forum; with the restriction that only people who are logged in and are at least member level status being able to view it.

So if a newbie opens a new thread in the Alternate Cryptocurrencies sub-forum only member and higher who are logged in can view the post and discuss the new coin that is created. It might be a bit draconian, but I felt that something draconian was needed to stem this ridiculous influx.

No one cares, i guess its part of their strategy....
