Andrew Fernandez could have gotten away with his third bank robbery if it wasn’t for one extremely observant customer.
As Fernandez pointed a gun at the bank teller and demanded money, a customer realized his gun was a fake.
James Rowley, the customer, chased Fernandez out of the bank to the parking lot.
Rowley and his co-worker, who was waiting for him in the car outside, managed to detain Fernandez long enough for the police to come and arrest the would-be robber.
It turned out he was a suspect in two similar robberies.
Fernandez later pleaded guilty to the three crimes and was sentenced to life behind bars.
As for 34 year old Rowley, he received a Police Public Bravery Award, a Commendation and a £1,200 reward for his bravery.
