Sync problem with OSx BTC-QT

Running Bitcoin-QT on OSx 10.9 and it is taking forever to sync. Been at it for weeks now. How can I make sure it is still syncing while i am not at my desk.

I have the computer automatically locked after a few minutes so my kids won't get on my account and I think this is the problem. It will not update while I am away, any suggestions on how to fix this?

While your computer locked, I dont think it will stop your internet connection so that the sync process should be running well. But if it does stop internet connection while it's locked, then there's no other way but to stay uncloked to sync
