President Obama on Friday said social media and the nightly news are partly to blame for the sense that “the world is falling apart.”

"I can see why a lot of folks are troubled," Obama told a group of donors gathered at a Democratic National Committee barbecue in Purchase, N.Y.

But the president said that current foreign policy crises across the world are not comparable to the challenges the U.S. faced during the Cold War.
Acknowledging "the barbarity" of Islamist militants and Russia "reasserting the notion that might means right," Obama, though, dismissed the notion that he was facing unprecedented challenges.

“The world’s always been messy ... we’re just noticing now in part because of social media,” he said, according to a White House pool report.

“If you watch the nightly news, it feels like the world is falling apart,” said Obama.

The president acknowledged that conflicts in the Middle East posed difficulties, “but it’s been challenging for quite a while,” he said.

“We will get through these challenging times just like we have in the past,” Obama added.

The president, looking to strike a reassuring tone, argued that American military superiority has never been greater and that the U.S. still held advantages over potential international rivals like China.

The event, held at the home of Robert Wolf, an occasional Obama golf partner and former president of UBS Investment Bank, was the second of three fundraisers the president was slated to attend on Friday. Tickets to the event began at $15,000 per couple, and around 250 supporters were in attendance.

For once Obama has a point. The media over hypes alot of events, both mainstream and entertainment sites like this one. The one real threat though is ISIS, nobody can deny this.

What are they going to do? Shout insults at us over the internet and post graphic images? Seriously though I know the threat but they know as well as we do if they actually came over here and tried to attack the world would stomp on them, even Russia would probably think about doing it at this point and I don't think people realise but China is actually very close to the whole Iraq/Afghanistan war.

I don't know what we'll do about ISIS but when even Al Qaeda doesn't like them you know they won't be around for long, even Anonymous are taking up the fight against them.

The medias today are over-reacting on even a tiny pin drop. They make a issue out of nowhere which is eventually causing the world to fall apart. The media stereotype should be broken and come back to reality.

Not the US problem if the world fall apart. They should not interfere with the natural evolution of any country.

Let the 3rd world solve their own conflict, however ugly that may be.

While it is true that the new method of information flow: Internet, instant messaging, TV cause people to see that world is not really so peaceful place. But it is also true that we are going in the wrong way as a humanity. And Obama knows it.

He knows it... Yet 'someone' is keeping him from doing the right thing over and over, pushing him to spy on journalists, use the IRS as a weapon, etc... He is part of the bad news we all read and see in the news...

The media does like to hype news stories, but only to an extent. If a media outlet makes too big a deal about something that is not a big deal they will lose credibility.

The media is reporting facts about the current international conflicts and we have serious problems. Obama is just making excuses for his military inaction.

The event, held at the home of Robert Wolf, an occasional Obama golf partner and former president of UBS Investment Bank, was the second of three fundraisers the president was slated to attend on Friday. Well it's good to see Obama is still with Michelle - he'll have somebody to go with to the Prom.  The POTUS thinks "we're" just now learning about the horrors outside out little corner of the world?

Didn't he watch Lord of the Rings - even there they knew a great evil was stirring in Mordor!

I guess when he's referring to "we're" he's talking about us hicks clinging to our guns and religion - oh wait he doesn't speak for that group.

I'm always happy to admit Americans are pretty stupid creatures (although probably still more intelligent than some others in the world judging from yourtube accidents), but the POTUS basically accusing America of being a Belieber   Shocked

Guess that's what happens when Katy Perry is your Chief of Staff.
