I think that for some people earth is just not enough
In more serious note, sometime in the future we will have to colonize other planets because we will destroy all the earth's resources.
From this viewpoint, it will be good idea to support this project now.

There's not going to be colonization of other planets, there's going to be more entertainment for people so they don't riot so much and at some point even technological development will stop

Question, if we go to another planet (a pretty complicated solution IMO) wouldn't the governments also follow us there? (or will most probably go first since they are the ones with billions of dollars budgets). also is it going to be a "wild west" thingy?

Irrelevant discussion  It will never happen. They shut down nasa sooner or later because rich doesn't have to pay taxes anymore and every engineer is forced to design sports cars for the rich instead of spaceships
