Didn't we talk about it in another topic?
I don't think we did?
TDP envelope as well as current leakage at +80C being issues.
TDP being a problem? Unlikely. Current leakage? Probably. But NVIDIA's cards shouldn't fare much better there, being based on the same TSMC 28nm HP process.
becoming quite common to have doa/failing cards with the 7970s, this through various newegg/amazon/and tech website threads.
Citation needed. People tend to overhype problems. Like Toyota stuck accelerators -- turns out it was just old people (median age over 60) -- who couldn't tell gas from brakes.
This is the 7990 killer...
I find it interesting that NVIDIA already holds the performance crown, there really was no rush for them to release GTX690, yet them seem to have done so, even with GTX680 in low supply.
It's not going to kill the 7990 since it can't mine for worth shit. The 7990 (whenever it comes) will probably be a "free" card after about 12 months of mining, whereas the GTX690 will be only worth its resale value.
I'll bet the 7990 will hold its resale value better too, since it'll be super-efficient and all the miners are going to want it, keeping the demand up.
At this point I'm going to guess GK100 is going to be Tesla/Quadro only.
