SGminer Api help

 I am trying to learn a way to get sgminer to change pool's in response to a command coming from Microsoft Excel, I believe this can be done using API commands. I have read the sgminer API help file and I think i have found the relevant commands and my understanding is that once set up sgminer will listen on what is called a "TCP/IP socket", I need to know the process of sending these relevant commands from Microsoft Excel to the sgminer TCP/IP socket or maybe just to start with how I can send commands directly to this TCP/IP socket rather than using Excel
