I've been lurking for months, just reading posts...finally decided to join. Looking for 'partners' to collaborate on building something amazing...not that i've got it all figured out, but I do have some very good ideas that i feel are not only valuable, but also timely...to be specific about why i'm here..

first, to find general developers with any of the following skills

databases: neo4j, berkeleydb, cassandra
search: elasticsearch
big-data: hadoop, map/reduce, hdfs, zookeeper
languages: java, python, php, javascript (and webgl), c++
other: jetty, json, p2p, websockets, vbulletin

bonus for experience with bitcoin source code and concepts...

also, for those that care to know, and who might find this interesting, I have COMPLETELY QUIT BANKING! True, true. The only thing I need a bank for is to cash my paycheck every two weeks. I have lived without a bank account now for six months. It's not as easy as it might seem, but just try to do it yourself Smiley

my next goal, is to entirely quit ANY fiat currency (i.e. the all-mighty dollar or euro, etc). no joke. some think i'm a fool to even consider such a thing. in fact, most people probably get involved in BitCoin because they think it will be worth more dollars in the future, so they just want to 'make money', without really considering what it is they are saying. now granted, BitCoin is an experimental currency, but as Ghandi said, be the change you wish to see...well i for one am DAMN TIRED of what i see happening in the world of big banks and big government. I've known people that can live completely without money (could provide links if you'd like). i'm not saying i will live without money, i'm just saying i will live completely without fiat currencies. i'll find a way to exist purely through BitCoin--and never touch debt-backed security again!

I know it's a big risk, but I've taken bigger in my past (and fallen hard). and if history is any judge, i'll probably regret my resolve in some ways, but at least i can look at myself in a mirror and know that i didn't just follow the lemmings into the pit. even if i don't end up rich like frank sinatra, at least i can say i did it my way. like the old oakies in grapes of wrath riding their cars westward with signs reading "california or bust", my slogan will be "BitCoin Mainstream or Bust".

But I have been planning. Slowly weaning myself off of the system. Giving up banking was the hardest step--online accounts were so, so nice and convenient. and i can't tell you how much i miss direct deposit every week when i go to cash my check--you know the banks absolutely HATE it when you tell them you don't have an account, you don't want an account, you just want your check cashed. they take your fingerprint, make you present 3 forms of identification, question you how you're going to use the money, etc.,etc...

enough ranting...just want to say that i have some great ideas for bitcoin, and i'm hoping to start some development on some new projects very soon. i'm not sure when i'll quit the dollar for good, but i feel it coming very soon...man, i must be crazy...but i'm just about to the point of no return...may fortune favor the bold! haha

also, this isn't spam, just a cool video that I thought others might find at least mildly entertaining...

"Those who live by numbers can also perish by them and it is a terrifying thing to have an adding machine write an epitaph."

~George J.W. Goodman
best-selling author, The Money Game (1968)
from Money as Debt II (part 2 of Cool

http://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL997FA4E8792ADB5D&feature=plcp

the whole series takes about 80 minutes...there are some points i would argue with, many points i entirely agree with, some i am uncertain about, but overall it's educational and considering the fact that currencies world-wide are teetering on the brink of collapse...and if/when they do it all falls like dominoes. is BitCoin THE answer? it just has to be. and judging from many of the posts that i've read by various developers, and a lot of people seem to agree that BitCoin is one of the greatest

so it's either BitCoin...
or this...
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9gC3m3IwWSI

personally, i'd rather carry a Thumb-drive than a bunch of silly coins issued by yet another 'governmental' body in cahoots with the international monetary fund (global equivalent of centralized bank)...but for this to be successful, BitCoin is going to have to go mainstream, and honestly, i think it's still got quite a few hurdles to overcome. not expounding, just sayin'

i'm just rambling, I suppose...just waiting out my time in newbie purgatory without so much as a single reply to my enthusiastic (if somewhat insane) introduction...for some reason i thought i'd be more welcome amongst such a motley crew!

I quit banks and use a credit union. They still have online accounts but the difference is the members own the credit union.

i'm sure not all banks are bad, especially some of the small banks...and even the credit unions are better...but they all feed off the same system and breathe the same life's blood, our blood, in my opinion...not saying everyone should quit their banks...most people wouldn't be happy in the short-term to give up the luxuries just to prove a point...not many willing to shadow diogenes...and that's the real risk...but hey, there have to be some adventurers...but i wonder if there are others...anyone out there who has quit using currency and banks and only uses bitcoin to survive, maybe even thrive...i wonder?

anyway, nice to meet you Crypto! what languages do you know? what are you developing? why are you here?
