So as most of you know blockchain.info has launched a tor hidden service:

https://blockchainbdgpzk.onion/
https://blockchain.info/wallet/anonymity

Let's be serious, we all know exactly who uses tor. It isn't people like us who are concerned about general privacy; a good VPN is enough to keep us anonymous.

The only people who need to use tor for Bitcoin transactions, which basically means doing your best to ensure that even powerful law enforcement can't track you, are people laundering money from drugs, child porn, or to illegal terrorist organizations.

I know a lot of you quietly support the drug markets, because they provide most of non speculative demand for btc, so they keep the demand and therefore the price up. But I think a company like blockchain.info offering a site basically designed to help criminals can only make us look worse in the eyes of the media, the government, and the average joe. We need to win over at least two of those groups if we are going to thrive.

I'm using a throwaway account because I don't want to catch shit personally and I use blockchain.info myself. I just had to get this off my chest and see how many others agree. Am I wrong?

unlike you im not a pussy and i wont hide behind a throw away account to air my views. that said you either work for the government or are so far behind in your views you should still be living in a cave.

1. average joe does care about privacy and the fact the government feels it has the right to snoop on people just because it can is why blockchain.info offers these services. its not for drugs and childporn and suggesting thats all tor is is like suggesting the Internet is just for porn. its a stupid view that i dare you to back up with 10 mins of research.

2. as your a pussy that should be back in a cave why are you hiding behind a disposable account??? your doing the same thing tor useres do, your speaking your mind and dont want to be held responsible. so essentially youve proven why TOR exists.

im not sure if your stupid. ill-informed or just didnt think this topic through either way i really do suggest getting more info next time

The 'average joe' does not care about privacy actually. Most internet users are extremely basic and don't take extra steps to increase their privacy and anonymity.

Hidden Service != Child Porn and Drugs.

DuckDuckGo, Facebook, The Pirate Bay all have hidden services. Does that mean they all support child porn and drug abuse?

Not everyone has it as good as you. What if you lived in North Korea or the Islamic state? Should you not hide your identity because someone else is a pedophile? Besides, there is no reason for anyone to know my surfing habits. It's none of the governments business.

I always hide my identity when transacting online. Last week i received my 3rd. new debit card this year! Why? because I could not hide my identity with that card. Guess how many time I had to get new bitcoins?
