BitTourist

BitTourist is a new innovative platform currently under development. It is imagined as a platform for all people that rent apartments for tourists and maybe even for hotels and similar places.
BitTourist is imagined to be an entirely minimalistic open-source platform consisted of two Raspberry Pis, a network router and an external (possibly of large storage) hard drive for use with one of the Raspberry Pis.

The platform is imagined to be backed by Bitcoin and encourages tourists to use Bitcoin.

Features:
BitTourist is imagined to be an Intranet inside the house/rented apartment. The platform would be accessed when connected to the house's WiFi. The network itself would offer Internet connection for clients/tourists and would also offer the before mentioned Intranet access where the client would be able to access the local website.

The website itself would offer:
  • Video or audio content of :
    - Local culture
    - Places to visit
    - City history
    - Recommendation of local food
    - etc.
  • Local radio:
    - Local Intranet radio with choice of music genres, or with local music
  • Old and new photos of the city's tradition, people, buildings...
  • ... and possible other features

Access to certain features would be made available by paying with Bitcoin, as well as the entire tourist's stay in the apartment.

My goal is to collect an undefined amount of funds, possibly by crowdfunding so I can buy routers, Raspberry Pis, cables, and everything I need to get the project running.
The entire project will be published on GitHub and will be open-source forever.

An in-house server to show videos? Why not give the tourist a website URL to browse?

So if I read this correctly the idea is to have a virtual tour guide inside an apartment that recommends local area products and services when a person books a hotel.

Sort of interesting, but the internet is there this only provides a bit of convinience of putting it all in one place.

You say it in a way that makes it really suck :/
It's not just random videos, it's about the place they're visiting, recommendations, everything in one place.

Kind of. Yeah, it puts it all in one place with the addition of multimedia that entertains the client.
