Why cant we change our avatars? Will we ever be able to?

Some people have custom avatars, but on the profile settings it says that changing avatars is not available. Why is this?

I believe avatars will be allowed in the new forum and I would think avatars will be able to be changed in the new forum as well (although this is somewhat speculation)

It is likely to stop people injecting malicious code into the forum now as the issue have probably no been fixed. They have just prevented it from happening by disabling the feature.

Still though there might be some vulnerabilities and they dont want to risk it. I am not saying that is definitely the case but it would be my guess.
