Besides which, to a certain extent, "Altcoins are where bitcoin dreams" so to speak. A lot of the alpha type features and ideas get road tested on alts, and if robust and useful enough can get backported to bitcoin. So dev activity in alts could be recycled into bitcoin at some point.

2 .........................a whole fucking 2 for the entire btc world ...............
do you think thats enough or youre just trolling ??
Two paid full time developers, three core developers on volunteer basis and a lot of extra people who like to help out Bitcoin. Should be more than enough. For more information (and a full list of people who have done something for Bitcoin) checkout this link: Bitcoin development.

Don't forget how much money blockstream raised for development - $21 million.  That pays for a lot.

(And glad they moved this from the tech and dev section).

We might expect, that what happened in linux will happen in bitcoin, that bitcoin companies, needing mission critical improvements, will pay in house devs to do them, which will be contributed back to the main source.

Compared to the other coins who are at least making half-assed attempts, what are the bitcoin core devs doing?

(expecting a lack of answers on this one, hence the death of BTC)

And what are these alt coins dev's motives? They're only 'active' because it is in their interests to do so because they want to get rich from their coin. Once it dies or gets dumped they don't care - on to the next coin. Bitcoincore devs don't care about money and are more interested in adoption and the betterment of the currency but don't need to hang out all day here.

I'm surprised Bitcoin has as many devs as it does.

I'm not. In addition to the two developers who are paid by the Bitcoin Foundation and the many volunteers, aren't there others who are paid by BitPay and other companies that have an interest in seeing Bitcoin succeed?

How many client downloads are we up to now, 5-10 million? VLC media player has well over a billion downloads. For just a movie player that's pretty impressive because there are dozens of different movie players. Bitcoin is still just a newborn infant.

They don't compare, at this point Bitcoin is still in its infancy. While it doesn't currently have mass adoption like VLC media player, it does attract people who are far more able and willing to contribute code (to Bitcoin Core or to other related projects) than your average person who simply wants to watch a movie would be.

I wouldn't exactly call VLC "just" a movie player either. It may be the best media player I've ever used and it's definitely the best cross-platform media player I've ever used, working almost identically on Windows, Mac and Linux. It's one of the first things I install on any computer I own even if I don't plan to use that computer primarily for movies or music.

I guess I should have said as young as bitcoin is development is funded. It has paid devs that should be killing themselves improving it. I said Bitcoin was still an infant but in another six years I expect it to be as least where vlc was at in the early 2000s with a couple hundred volunteers, 7-8 thousand commits and a half billion downloads. If it's not something is wrong with the idea. I chose vlc for comparison because, like Bitcoin, it's a great project whose time has come.

How absolutely condescending. If that's a waste of life, what do you call the time spent trolling a topic you hold in such disdain?

Anyone with a campaign ad in their signature -- for an organization with which they are not otherwise affiliated -- is automatically deducted credibility points.

I've been convicted of heresy. Convicted by a mere known extortionist. Read my Trust for details.
