I see a lot of attacks going on sites related to Bitcoin, like Blockchain was attacked a while back, Bitstamp was recently attacked, I read a tweet on twitter.com/bitcointalk that even bicointalk got attacked by Dos in November.

And I am just wondering how do sites like Twitter, FB, Reddit protect themselves from these type of hacks?

Or is it that they don't get attacked because hackers don't have any interest in their database?

It depends, there isn't much you can do against a coordinated attack beyond maybe getting some hackers on your side to strike back which is what I'd do, the main thing is, if you're dealing in coins a lot and have to transfer them on your website, always keep the highest percentage possible offline.

This is how bitstamp avoid a total catostrophe after getting hacked, they're back in business now because they stored the majority of their coins offline and kept a percentage online in case people wanted anything immediately, thanks to that the losses were actually fairly minimal compared to what they would have been if they were just lazy and thoughtless about their security.

What's the best technology to fight hack attacks? Bitstamp was pretty rich and I would think they must have had taken security measures to protect themselves but they still ended up losing a big chunk of money.

This wasn't DDOS somebody got into their wallet. As long as there is money to gain people will find ways to disable protections and hack sites. Every security program will become outdated in time, it's a cat and mouse game.

With all the money they have I would assume that they are just constantly working on security and making sure everything is up to date with current security protocol.

they have much more to invest in security than Bitcoin related business. And even they sometimes find problems.

Also there is no way to directly extract money from facebook, so we don't see Bitstamp situations here all the times

Big Boys uses the most expensive and most powerful hardwares, expensive software and the best programmers available.

Those ddos attacks cannot harm if your website have high bandwidth capacity bigger enough to accept all the attacks. There is also a software that blocks all attackers ip minimizing the attack.

Hacking can be prevented by strict compliance of the procedures. Many big companies is hiring top hackers to find vulnerabilities in their softwares.

stamp is not even a pimple on a donkey's but compared to fb, twitter, etc.
Mr. $ofty has over a million servers
Google, who does not report such numbers, is estimated to have more that.
Facebook admits only that they have 'hundreds of thousands' of servers.

You think stamp has 100,00 servers?

When BCT just went down it was because of a hard drive failure.  Think about how crazy that is compared to the above.

I only have a signature because I'm allowed.
