Recently I picked up some 5850's thought I would give them a try, i wasn't impressed with their performance what so ever, i was googling around and i found out that if you replace the 5850 bios with the 5870 bios it runs like a champ, like a 5870 and you can overclock it from there.   Almost 2 mhash x11 !!! Im going to experiment with some other bios, and some other radeons, if its possible here it may be possible for a 6850 . . or 7xxx and so on.

Good luck and anyone else who try it let us know here

Those are really really old GPUs. Try to get a 7950/7970 because most algos have optimized kernels for those. And you can even mine ETH.

i h ave a 5850 and only a few algo's are still optimized for that gpu, blake256, cryptonight, quark, qubit, LYRA2REV2, Keccak are mostly where you will do good..  having only 1gb of ram hurts it when you want to do DAGGER-HASHIMOTO

I used to mine with 5850 but I sold all. Just because they are less efficient in mining than the newer cards.
