Hello, My name is Mike Watts and I am new to the BitCoin scene. I recently opened an account with coinbase.com but was disappointed with fact that I had to wait an hour for my bitcoin purchase to be processed. BitPay.com, the company who handles the bitcoin purchase processing for the merchant whose product I attempted to purchase informed me that they do not recommend coinbase.com to do the transaction because of this time delay. They are in the process of refunding my bitcoins back to my coinbase.com account. My question is: Can I transfer my bitcoins from my coinbase.com account to my Electrum account? If the answer is yes...and I hope it is , how do I do this? Thank you.

Yes you can, open your Electrum wallet, go to the receive tab and copy a Bitcoin address from the Receiving list (you might want to label it something like "Coinbase withdrawal" for future reference).
Next login to Coinbase and do a withdrawal to this Bitcoin address. I am not familiar with Coinbases interface, but I believe they have an option called "withdraw to an external Bitcoin address" or something.
Be sure to keep a backup of your electrum wallet (writing down the "seed" is the best way to do this). Password protecting your electrum wallet is a good idea too, ensure you have the seed in case you forget your password.

Hi Blazr,
I did everything you said to do from opening my Electrum wallet, then going to the receive tab and copying a Bitcoin address from the Receiving list to logging into Coinbase and sending bitcoins to this Electrum wallet.
I still do not see the bitcoins in my Electrum wallet.
In the lower lefthand corner of my Electrum wallet says not connected.
I clicked on the red circle in the lower righthand corner of my Electrum wallet and it says disconnected from servers.
Do you think that is the problem?

Yes that is a problem. You need to connect your client app to the network in order to receive those funds in that wallet that you copied. Once you connect it, it should process the funds into your wallet. You can also check to see if the funds are in your wallet at Blockchain.info.
Search your wallet address and you should be good.

Hello, I've attempted to connect to all of the default servers to no avail. What's going on? Does it matter what type of download I choose on https://www.electrum.org/download.html?I'm using Windows.

Are you trying to use Electrum over Tor or a VPN? Set the proxy dropbox to none if you are not using Tor/VPN/proxy. Under protocol, select HTTPS, then select electrum.no-ip.org from the list and click OK. Wait a few minutes for it to sync. I just tested and this server is working.

Tor is the onion router and vpn is a virtual private network. He's asking if you are using either of these to connect to the internet to increase your privacy. From your question I'm guessing the answer is no.
I just recently started using electrum and didn't need to do anything, it just connected straight away. I'm sorry you're having trouble.

Yup, galbros is right. If you don't know what those are then set proxy to none.
Try using the electrum server I specified above. I picked that server especially because it runs on port 443 so it'll help rule out a firewall.

Thanks for your support guys but it is still not working and this is very frustrating . How can I send my bitcoins back to coinbase.com from blockchain.info? Contact blockchain info support - https://blockchain.info/wallet/support-pages. I haven't used either in a while, but I'm sure they have improved. You just have to understand the difference between sending and receiving. In General, you want to SEND from one wallet to another's RECEIVING address, if that makes sense. Don't do it in reverse or your bound to get frustrated. IOTW, SEND btc from a populated wallet to receiving address in the target wallet! Good luck!

Hi Owlcatz, Thanks for the information but I FINALLY transferred my bitcoins from my Coinbase.com account to my Electrum wallet SUCCESSFULLY! I would like to send a shout out to Blazr, galbros and Aemon for their wisdom. You guys were right when you told me to set my proxy box to none and under protocol, to select HTTPS, then select electrum.no-ip.org from the list and then to click OK. Then to wait a few minutes for it to sync. It took more like 5 to 10 minutes. Thanks for being techies. Mike

Try this: File > Open > default_wallet.dat should be selected open it. This usually corrects any issues I have with Electrum.

Hello, This message is for Blazr, galbros and Aemon. Thank you guys so very much for your wisdom relating to transferring my bitcoins from my Coinbase.com account to my Electrum wallet. I finally did it! I just had to wait a little bit longer than a few minutes after I set the proxy drop box to none, my protocol dropbox to HTTPS and selected the specific server you told me to select(can't think of the name right now). Keep up the great technical support! Mike
