historically the Bitcoin Foundation had scum city at the very top man....

-Charlie Shrem, also founding member of the Bitcoin Foundation.  BitInstant founder and Money launderer.  Funded Silk Road

I don't disagree with part of your premise. But one must make a distinction between what is legal and ethical. I see absolutely nothing wrong with money laundering for the silk road ethically. I personally wouldn't do this because the inherent risks.... but praise those that facilitate in protecting the privacy and anonymity of peaceful adults  trading in a consensual manner.

It would be far more accurate to castigate every tax paying citizen for all the human rights abuses and murders that have been paid for in their names and with their financial support.

In summary , there are other examples you can cite which support your central thesis like KnCminer and other corrupt companies with past relationships within TBF.

I applaud you trying to stick up for Shrem, him being a "pioneer" of sorts in this early days Wild West of Bitcoin history, but even he admits he was wrong...

Whether he said it, because it would be an uphill battle, not a fair shake, yada yada...doesn't matter.

He owned his mistake.  He knowingly processed millions of BTC for the use of buying and selling drugs.  I'm not condoning buying or selling drugs, right or wrong between 2 parties...that's everyone's prerogative or choice.

If you get caught, however, an illegal act shouldn't go unpunished, and Shrem is guilty as charged.

Him being a pioneer is irrelevant, I would suggest the same for any human being regardless of their history or contributions.

Whether or not he believes his actions were wrong or just admitting thus for legal reasons, and whether or not he was convicted of illegal crimes is irrelevant to the point I am trying to make.

I want to support non-profit organizations that do what is right and ethical , whether in doing so they break laws or not. I am not defending Shrem specifically as I don't know him well enough but he should have never been punished and charged as you suggest for those crimes...  because those actions you cite shouldn't have been crimes in the first place. In his case the jury should have recognized the unjust laws and used jury nullification to bring justice in his case.
