Hello,

I am planning on releasing a new alt coin soon and was wondering if there are any guidelines on doing that process the right way. I know this is a Bitcoin board and I don't want to break any rules regarding new alt coin announcements.

Any insight is greatly appreciated. This is a great board and I don't want to do something that creates a FUD storm... hehe...

Thanks!

Let us know a few days ahead of time so we can all be ready. Altcoincalendar.info is a good place.

If you take a premine, you had better have a good reason. Explain what you plan to use it for. This includes ICO funds.

Have working wallets before launch. Password protected zips or make sure you put the binaries on a site that can handle the traffic.

Hardcode the seed nodes and don't advertise them here. Alternatively, post them at launch.

Coin needs a purpose and should have some innovation. Otherwise it will get little attention.

Establish, with 100% honesty, your true motive for creating the project.
If you are looking to make money, then consider there are probably better, more worthwhile ways.

No premine, flashmine, instamine, no hidden tricks... just fair launch... still considering CPU only at launch, then gradually upgrade to GPU and pool mining (when diff gets to high for CPU mining) or all at once at launch, not sure yet... just wanting to prevent quick buildup and dump (although I know it's not always preventable)...

Best is to be no premined. Or at least not alot.
It kills coin in start.
CPU based without option to implement any other technology would be a great chance for small people to mine something nice. Good marketing make wonders. Make sure everyone hear about your coin. It have to have a sense for usage somewhere. Example, Namecoin is meant to be used to buy domain names. It's not mining coin, but it's nice to have it as it's future of domain name payments. Steady difficulty. No bounces like 200%. 10-15 at max and back down to normal. Try not to make fast bubble and later to be sorry cause of huge dumps.
No asic, no GPU, just CPU. It sould have a future. About the algo, I don't know which one is the best.

-do a premine, as much as possible so you can dump on all your " investors"
-make fake accounts and act like you have support,
-tell c-cex youre creating a scamcoin, they will surely list you immediately.
-save your basic source and bitcointalk thread so when you have dumped your first batch of coins on your investors, you can just make up a new name and copy your old thread and start your new coin
-alternatively you can disappear for a while act like the coin is dead, and then quickly come back so you  have another batch to dump.
-dno if i forgot anything, but this is how lots of people on bitcointalk work! this is " the guideline"

edit;
almost forgot, include an ICO! "devs" on bitcointalk love them and get a lot of extra cash through these!

good luck!

You forgot to tell him to pay exchanges to list his coin as soon as it's launched. Most of the big exchanges have been hacked so he doesn't have to worry about getting his coin on one. All he has to do is pay a few crap exchanges, then dump his premine on them.

Guidelines are:

If it doesn't introduce some innovation, don't release it.

I tend to agree with this sentiment.

If you're not adding anything other than a name, it's probably best to support an existing coin. The problem with altcoins at the moment is the communities are fragmenting. It's time to come together and build a few great coins.

Let's 'defrag' the altcoin community.  Cheesy

No rules being broken you are in the right place here, congrats on working towards creating something its always good and you asking for advice how to do it properly is fresh air and all credit to you.

If i was going to release a coin i would make sure i knew everything about the creation of the coin and potential problems that tend to occur with new releases, you should be as honest as you can with a community that you possibly build and work your butt of and i am sure everything else will fall into place.

Have a game plan and goals share them with your community and make sure they are active, my advice help the community become active i believe after development this is most important.

Good luck
