i dont think so. may be you can lose your bitcoin if you :
1. not using backup
2. no using two factor authentication
3. not save bitcoin on place and etc Grin

You can still import the private keys and the wallet.dat file to another wallet that supports such action. If a wallet just "stopped working" or "isn't working" anymore, you can still save the wallet's data, especially the wallet.dat and private keys and just import it to a new wallet.

Noob here.  Huh  If I have bitcoins in a specific bitcoin client wallet (e.g. Amor, or Multibit HD, etc) and for some reason that wallet and its associated software client on my phone or pc no longer works (perhaps no longer supported by the operating system-- I have seen that happen with games, e.g. Diablo I, Diablo II games would not run on Windows 7), how would I get my bitcoin money? I don't understand if a bitcoin wallet from one specific software client is portable for importing into a different software client.  Of course one should backup one's wallet, but that won't do any good if the software client that creates the backup does so in its proprietary data file format.  Cold storage is one option I suppose, would that work, but still what if one did not want cold storage and its theft risks? Confused, and this seems important to me at least, so i know I would not lose my $ because of software no longer working.

I think when you lose the password from your bitcoin wallet or bitcoin wallet is not working more , all your Bitcoins are lost. Therefore I suggest to choose some good bitcoin wallet such as blokchain .

If someone drops air-terrain missile and destroy all your hardware and physical backups your bitcoins will be lost forever.

If not, you still have hope, if you find the wallet.dat(or equivalent) file that stores the private key.

If was hardware failure, then there are some data recover services around and you still may recover the keys, for a big price

You can also consider using nLockTime transactions with SuredBits to protect your bitcoins from being inaccessible forever in worst case scenarios (i.e. lost seed/passphrases, acts of God, etc). You can sign the nLockTime transaction client-side so SB never sees your private key, or you can sign it in with a full-node wallet (ex. Bitcoin Core). You also have the option of designating the address in which the bitcoin would be sent to, but this isn't recommended. Additionally, nLockTime transactions are very flexible in that you can invalidate them at any time by simply spending from the address. Feel free to PM me any questions and I'll be happy to help!

you don't have to worry about this. you just need your wallet.dat and private key
wallet.dat file is compatible for any operating system. and for private key is your backup if you need to move your bitcoin into another wallet
just need to export your private key from your wallet and then import your private key to another wallet
