I need to report an imposter/scammer on the forums but I cannot post in other threads.  How do I find a mod for 'Market Place' here on the forums?

I can't even PM the guy for some reason (can't pass capcha) and I can't post a reply to his topic, but I know that what he is trying to sell is bogus.

This guy is the scammer:

He impersonated btcbuy in OTC on IRC to get a $50 Amazon gift certificate from me in exchange for BTC at spot.  As soon as I realized that he was an imposter, I refunded the gift card.  Here he is trying to sell it on the forums for btc.  I know it is him by the email he gave me to send him the gift card: pereirajeanex@yahoo.com

As mentioned in the Newbie Restrictions, you need 4 hours online before you get out of the newbie sandbox and can post in other sections of the forum.

Alternatively, you could make a petition in the Whitelist Requests thread.

Ok, just to clarify, you personally were not scammed, but [edited] sold an Amazon gift certificate to someone that was impersonating someone else?

So you were paid BTCs in exchange for an Amazon gift certificate but then you refunded the coins, without delivering the card?  Or ... ? ?? I'm confused.

A google search for pereirajeanex confirms a previous history of scams on other forums

He said that he would send me the BTC in 24 hrs after receiving the gift card...no, I did not receive any BTC from him.
Why would he impersonate someone else like that and then turn around to sell the gift card on these forums for best offer?  A scammer unless he was really intending to take a loss here which I doubt.

Yes, that impersonation of a trusted nick on IRC  (e.g., using a similar nick by appending a character to the end) is happening a lot.

If you haven't asked to be whitelisted you can try that.  Then you could move this thread to the Scam Accusations board.

Was this through IRC?  Do you by chance still have the IRC chat log for that?

Incidentally the IRC bot gribble will PM to anyone joining #bitcoin-otc with this message:

Quote
#bitcoin-otc: Watch out for fraudsters! Always check authentication with the ident command before trading, otherwise you could be dealing with an impostor. If in doubt, ask in channel. More info: http://bit.ly/YCGOI3
