Both of them (Ross and the hitman) can't be that stupid. Have you ever heard of a criminal, who accepts bank transfer for his services? This is ridiculous.

You do know that most criminals don't use bitcoin right? Seriously it is not hard for a criminal to send or receive a bank transfer anonymously, liberty reserve (which is what Ross used) used to let you do this before it was shutdown. There are lots of banking services out there that are available for criminals. How do you think scammers on localbitcons and such pull scams using bank transfers?

Normally all criminals use cash. Are there even anonymous bank accounts? Never heard of such services. If you're receiving bank transfers for illegal services you're asking to be caught.
The criminals used TOR and offered their services in the Internet, so they were accustomed with technology. Why not use one of the encrypted coin protocols available?

Yeah most still use cash, yet Bitcoin gets the most negative press possible constantly linking it to criminal activities because it's on their political interest.

LOL
It's an obvious fake. Would you pay someone for murder through a bank wire tranfer? Should just use bitcoins instead. I would =)

You're overestimating ross. He used his personal email to advertise silk road. I'm sure he was also dumb enough to pay for the hit through a bank transfer.

Let's get real, the guy was a fricking idiot.

If he was such an idiot, then he would have never created such a sophisticated market place and saved it from the FBI and hackers for more than a year. The FBI tracked him after years of monitoring. They spent millions of USD trying to track him. But for a long time he evaded those who tried to outsmart him. He was caught after a bug in the TOR browser exposed his IP. He was probably smarter than anyone in this forum.

Ross made many mistakes all of which ultimately contributed to his demise. The biggest error he made that tied him directly to Silk Road was using his own personal details to set up Silk Road in the first place. From what I gather it was good old fashioned detective work that got him caught but once he was there was plenty of evidence to seal the deal. Had he not used his personal email address and not got caught red handed operating SR with logs of his activities on the laptop amongst other things it might have been a much different story. I don't doubt that he is a very intelligent person but he did some ridiculously stupid things. If he was such a genius though he wouldn't be currently sitting in a jail cell right now.

When he was making logs of his day to day activities in journal entry type things did he not think how incriminating it would all be if he was ever caught?

Obviously not. He may be very intelligent but clearly he wasn't a criminal genius. I think rule #1 when you're creating these sorts of markets is not to be a resident in the United States or any country with an extradition treaty to there for that matter. Go to a nice sunny country where the US can't step foot in or if you want to remain in the US you better make sure to cover your tracks 100% but I wouldn't want to risk it as it's almost impossible and the stress of worrying about it doesn't bare thinking about.
