besides that: learning to trade and get a feel for the market, buy low, sell high and rebuy low again is the way to legally increase your holdings. In case you're one of the very poor you can also look on twitter, facebook and everywhere else for freebies in altcoins. Often there are handouts of altcoins worth a little.
Mining altcoins can help make you profit too. Have fun with the nice tech

Best thing you can do is:
1) Pick a wallet, not an online wallet
2) set up an account with Circle
3) buy some Bitcoin
4) send the Bitcoin to your wallet
5) spend a little of that Bitcoin
6) enjoy the item you purchased with Bitcoin.

Then brag to 500 of your closets friends that you used Bitcoin. By then you will be well on your way.

First of all, choose a best wallet that suites you!
Buy bitcoin with fiat currency, send it to your address  now you got BTC on your address.
OR
If you want to earn by BTC , its little bit tougher task.
visit some faucet rotators, earn by trade, earn by doing some simple tasks, etc.,

first of all read this first for beginners : https://bitcoin.org/en/getting-started
then you could buy bitcoin from exchange, choose exhange that have a good reputation.
then send your bitcoin to your wallet to make your bitcoin more safer. do not use online wallet.
leave it if you believe bitcoin price will rise in the future. and don't forget to lock your wallet.
